Disney Announced Streaming Platform To Bundle with Hulu and ESPN
That’s right. Disney+ (that new, unavoidable, covetous streaming platform that is going to own EVERYthing come this fall) is surprisingly NOT going to be $22 a month on top of whatever you are paying in Netflix and Amazon and other streaming necessities. Disney will offer a bundle package of its three streaming services — Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — for $12.99 a month starting on November 12th. That’s what you pay for Netflix! I AM GOBSMACKED.
That is far more affordable than the rumored $17 that HBO Max might be foisting on us. And you know what Disney+ will have? All of the good shit. Disney CEO Bob Iger knows that they have all the good shit too. He said so a little nicer in the press release: “The positive response to our direct-to-consumer strategy has been gratifying, and the integration of the businesses we acquired from 21st Century Fox only increases our confidence in our ability to leverage decades of iconic storytelling and the powerful creative engines across the entire company to deliver an extraordinary value proposition to consumers.”
Hear that? “The businesses we acquired from … Fox” include things like Avatar, X-Men and all the Marvel properties they didn’t already own, and The National Geographic Channel. It means they own FX (and The Americans and The Simpsons). AND it also means that they (thankfully) don’t own Fox News … so you can subscribe without losing your soul.
Did you also notice the “decades of iconic storytelling” in there? Yeah. That’s Star Wars and of course everything Pixar and animated Disney fare and even The Muppets. It’s all going on Disney+ for the low low price of a Pick Two Combo from Panera Bread.
And I’d like to not let it pass without saying, “good for them” in offering the sports option and all that because some people like it, but I’m ignoring it altogether because that’s what I do.
So … go forth knowing you will get to see Loki and WandaVision and Rogue One and The Little Mermaid to your heart’s content before Christmas rolls around!
