Loving RockLove at NYCC 2018

in Comic Cons on 10/08/18 by Lorena Leave a Comment

Saturday at NYCC I managed to get over to the RockLove booth. Before stopping by this beautiful double wide booth setup, I was entirely unfamiliar with the RockLove brand and jewelry. After a quick look around, I fell in love with it and many of the pieces. The owner of RockLove, Allison Cimino, who is the designer and jeweler for all the pieces they make, gave us a guided tour of the booth and a closer look at some of the pieces. Check it out:

As you can see, they were offering a ton of stuff! As someone who grew up in Orlando, Florida, Disney has a special place in my heart. I’m not into any particular characters or princesses or what not, but the one thing I really love about Disney is the magic you experience from it. I enjoy hosting people in my hometown, it’s like a sense of pride or whatever (I’m southern, okay!), so whenever I take someone to Disney World I consider myself their host and must ensure they experience the magic.

It’s always different for every person, for example, contributor Emily and I went a gal trip there and she’d hit her limit after we did Animal Kingdom for a few hours on our final day. I got us onto the bus to Magic Kingdom to get myself a citrus swirl and then we’d chill until the fireworks. Glancing at the app, I noticed Rapunzel was doing a meet ‘n greet soon, and Emily was wearing her Tangled shirt that day. I signed us up for fast passes and we made it inside just as the thunderstorm started. By the time we had our photos, the storm was done and Emily had experienced her piece of Disney magic.

What I loved most about RockLove’s pieces is the care Allison puts into designing each one to have that extra touch of Disney magic. When she pulled the full aria out of the shell locket for the Little Mermaid collection, I literally ooohed! What a cool idea! I really enjoy how each piece has something unique to it, a little extra element. When she showed us the packaging in more detail, I was really blown away. The travel pouch is such an excellent touch, because I am usually traveling with jewelry and don’t have a ton of bags.

The metal allergy concern that led Allison to creating her own nerd jewelry is a major problem for me as well. Of all my earrings, I can wear only two pairs for longer than a couple hours without getting inflammation and sometimes even infection. Because of it, I’m rarely wearing earrings and never wearing posts. It’s nice to know that an entire store exists within my price points that has fun jewelry that I can actually wear. And after seeing some of the Marvel stuff (cough, baby Groot, cough), I may need to purchase an item!
