Major Spoilers Ahead
Hang In There
Lets jump right off the gallows, shall we!
Question 1: Will George Warleggan ever stop trying to kill Demelza’s brothers? Pick a new target!
Question 2: Could that hanging scene have been any longer? I held my breath until I had tiny Ross Poldarks dancing around my head.
I love a rousing speech as much as anyone, but not when a baby faced lad has a noose around his neck. I’m glad it worked, but between all the commotion and quaking legs, Drake could have stumbled right off that stoop. Given the swift judgment and execution, I 100% expected the camera to cut back and show us they hanged the wrong person. That’s how luck works for the good guys in Poldark Land, but not this week!
Bad Romance
I hate to wish a man dead, but if Hugh ever thought he had a chance, he never witnessed Ross and Demelza in the midst of a lingering kiss on the beach. God speed buddy, and please take your poetry with you. I still have not forgiven Demelza for their sandy tryst. Don’t worry! I haven’t forgiven Ross either. At least Demelza’s actions didn’t make a baby (that we know of). I give Ross props, though, for being understanding. If anyone understands what it is like to have conflicting feelings about two people, it’s him. I also appreciate his willingness to have the tough conversations and allowing Demelza her grief. Too bad all of this healthy communication is coming together just in time for him to run off to Parliament. Why can’t they go together? I must have missed that part. Elizabeth’s bags were packed and ready to go with George, but Ross can’t take Demelza? I need answers!
Pitter Patter
I cannot wait to see the beautiful baby Dr. Enys and Caroline will create! I do hope they come up with a better name than Clowance. I also hope Caroline gets over her disgust of children. Where do these feelings stem from? There has to be a story there. Any chance she changes her mind once the baby is in her arms? Are we about to take a peek at what postpartum depression looked like in the 1700’s? I, for one, think Caroline could use some baby spit-up in her life. Nobody can look that perfect all the time!
Episode 1 & 2 Points-
Speaking of luck, the bad guys did a whole lot of winning in season 3. Are things about to get better for team Poldark? Let’s keep score for fun!
Ross earns +2 for each brother he saved, but -1 for lying to Demelza about it =1
Ross +1 for winning the Parliament seat. Can he use this new power to stop George from making everyone miserable. =1
Ross +2 for the shirtless beach scene, and the sweaty semi-shirtless practice fight with Sam. =2
Ross -1 for making Sam practice fighting with him the day before the actual fight. We all know he lost because he was sore from practicing the day before, right?? Why would they do that! =-1
I’ll give the good guys a bonus +1 for the future baby, and another +1 for the look of Ossie’s face when he runs to check on Morwenna and finds her reading when he thought he was going to bust her for going to the hanging. =2
Team Poldark Grand Total: 5
George gets 1/2 for causing us emotional distress during the hanging scene. =1/2
Ossie Whitworth +2 for both times he made me visibly cringe. =2
+1 for making us see a semi-shirtless Tom Harry (not to be confused with Tom Hardy).
Team Warleggan Grand Total: 2.5
