- Battling with a nationwide database software sent from the bowels of 1995
- Teetering on a ladder to install a 9′ x 16′ wave made of blue craft paper
- Fashioning band aids out of duct tape to protect a volunteer’s ravaged cuticles
- Directing heavy canine traffic flow during an outdoor canvass launch
Which brings me to another crash course campaign task and this week’s topic:
Get Out The Vote Weekend
While all the ongoing efforts are technically to “gotv,” GOTV weekend covers the last 4 days of the election, and it is billed as the “longest day of an organizer’s life.” Currently campaigns are still in the “persuasion” phase, and focusing on talking to low turnout and undecided voters. For GOTVWE™ the canvass goals shift to either nagging folks to turn in their mail-in ballots, or helping them create a plan to get to the polls on Tuesday. Our campaign is planning 4 canvasses a day over those 4 days with the goal to send people to tens of thousands of doors* to urge them to GET THEIR ASSES OUT AND VOTE.
And now that we’re a little less than a month away, it’s a great time to start planning your GOTVWE™ commitments! Many campaigns are lining up hosts for volunteers during that time, so plan to cram your friends into a car and make a day or two of it! Hop on to Swing Left to identify your nearest swing district, then contact the candidate’s office to get the GOTV weekend deets! I will be passing along more information as the time comes closer, and as I learn about while perched atop of a 12′ ladder.
TN Tracker Update
There isn’t one. So I’m going to put my sleek graphic on hold until I see those hours start to roll in!
That’s all for this RQ update! Now get out there and GOTV!
23 days to fix this shit – let’s do it!
Where’s your nearest swing district? How do you feel about renting an RV and heading over with all your friends? Do you like using your “mom voice” in service of good? Yes? You’re hired!
*For real. In just our district alone
