But, as a former Washington Redskins fan (seriously, I’m in search of a new team to call mine. I can’t take the heartache anymore.), I found myself conflicted. I did NOT want to cheer for the Eagles and like most of the country, I didn’t want to see the Patriots win again either, so what am I to do? Skip the Super Bowl and therefore skip all the snacks? That’s not a real thing that could have ever really happened.
So, Emily and I were talking and we both agreed that since we didn’t really care about the game, we’d judge the commercials instead.
We broke the commercials down into separate categories and chose a winner in each one. Without further ado, here is the list of winner’s from Super Bowl LII (and I guess, congrats to the Eagles….I just felt a little sick saying that).
Category: Cars/Trucks/SUVs
For our first winner, we choose the Jeep commercial with Jeff Goldblum. First, because it’s Jeff Goldblum. Second, it was Jurrasic Park. And finally, Jeff Goldblum chased a T-Rex with a Jeep. Clearly, this was the winner.
Runner-Up: The Ram commercial with the singing Vikings. That was funny and catchy. But lost points for no T-Rex. Sorry, Ram.
Category: Food
Is there any doubt as to which one we’ll choose here? The only true winner this round is the Doritos and Mountain Dew commercial starring Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman. This one doesn’t need our reasons for winning, it won just based off of the sheer awesomeness of seeing Morgan Freeman lip sync-rap to Missy Elliot.

Runner-Up: The M&M commercial with Danny Devito. Because if anyone anywhere was made to play the red M&M, it was Danny.
Category: Beer
There was no clear winner here, y’all. The Bud Light ones were funny, but also, I’m super over the “Dilly Dilly” thing. Chris Pratt in the Michelob Ultra commercials was funny and he also was in the Jurassic World and Infinity Wars trailers as well, so kudos to Chris for winning at life right now. With that being said, we’re going to keep Chris’ winning streak on point and award him the winner for the Beer Category.
Runner-Up: Stella Artois. Ignore Matt Damon and buy yourselves a cool glass.
Category: Random Products
I didn’t know what else to call this category, so Random Products it is. This is where the Quicken Loans, The Voice, and the Amazon’s Alexa commercials all live. Some were amazing (shout out to The Voice) and some were meh (sorry Lionel Richie). But the grand winner here was Amazon’s Alexa losing her voice. I would actually buy one if those were the voices and things that that tiny terrifying piece of tech actually said.
Runner-Up: Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. + Dirty Dancing = hilarity.
Category: Movie Trailers
Oh boy. This one is a toughy. There were so many good trailers for movies that we want to see! The Quiet Place looks intense as all get out. The Jurassic World trailer looks amazing and I want to see it, but I don’t want to watch a bunch of dinosaurs die. Solo. No other words needed. Mission Impossible, but honestly we’re only there for Henry Cavill and the other half of Mustache Gate. So, which one was the winner? Avengers: Infinity Wars. Duh. We chose this based on of all our little Marvel pals finally joining together. Otherwise, Solo would have taken the win. Please don’t take our Star Wars Nerd cards away from us.
Runner-Up: Solo. Obvs.
Category: New TV Shows
So many good shows coming out! We chose Cloverfield on Netflix because when that dismembered arm started crawling along that grate, I jumped up on my couch and screeched like a tiny child.
Runner-Up: Castle Rock, coming to Hulu. It looks so scary/creepy.
Category: The Grand Champion Overall Winner
This is it, folks. This one is for all the fake points and non-existent trophies. The Grand Champion is…the Tide Ads. Why? Not just because most of them were hilarious, but because after seeing the first one, every single commercial we watched made us ask: is this a Tide ad? Now that my friends is excellent advertising. When you can be watching a commercial about Pringles and asking yourself, “is this a Tide ad?” So, major hat tip to the marketing genius behind that.

Runner-Up: The Austrailia Tourism Ad with Chris Hemsworth and Danny McBride. Can that be a real movie, please?
There you have it, folks, our best of the best. Were there other amazing commercials? Absolutely. But these were the ones that we truly enjoyed and hopefully won’t hate two months from now when they’re played on constant repeat.
