We’ve been ratcheting up our excitement for Starz’ newest original series, American Gods since it was announced. Every casting choice has been met with more and more approbation here at That’s Normal. Especially because showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have seemingly been making every possible choice with fans in mind.
And now we’ve gotten our first look at the show, and well … it looks perfect.
Entertainment Weekly released these two shots of one of the early scenes in the book: Shadow (Ricky Whittle) and Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) and Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) at Jack’s Crocodile Bar. It’s kooky and Americana and as Bryan Fuller puts it: “… a tonal landgrab for what we are and what the style of the show will be.” Here for it!

I love the outlandish vibe of the Crocodile Bar … the perfect place for Shadow to seal his fate with a dram of mead and get bullied into a fist fight with a leprechaun who’s … bigger than him? I can see the gold coins appearing out of the air in that room. I love the complacence on Wednesday’s face. What a place to encounter the old gods! Ahhhhhh.
So what do you think of this first look at Mr. Wednesday, Shadow, Mad Sweeney and the world of American Gods?
