I heard about Invisible Boyfriend on the Today Show – I know – sorry. Despite my devotion to my Book husband, JAMMF, and cheating on him with: Braden Carmichael, Wee Ian, Drew Baylor, Edward Cullen, West, Archer, Bennett Ryan and Roger Mac; I feel I can still have time to text a new invisible guy.
Let me introduce you to Colston Trent McLeary – he’s a dreamy 37 yr old, interested in sports, books and volunteering. Sigh
Invisible boyfriend is a site that “…let’s you have social proof your in a relationship….” The premise is you met this guy at Starbucks, began a relationship, but his job transferred him to –insert city of choice – so now you stay in touch via text. Cuz why not???
Once you sign up: pick your guy, name him, choose his qualities & city he lives in, you are given a price scale. Initially you get 10 free texts, but for a charge of $24.99/mo it’s texts, a postcard & emails. I began to feel a little “Pretty Woman” at this point….. then this happened:
This text didn’t seem invisible at all – ummmmmm – it gave me the “what are you wearing right now…” awkwardness I mean, geeze, Colston, we barely know each other, a few Starbuck’s meetings & then you move away.
I began to feel protective of my Book relationships. Maybe an invisible boyfriend, sending me texts wasn’t for me – I am married, after all (albeit real life and book life)
Long distance relationships are so difficult, Colston living in New Orleans and me in CA – so before I decided to just break it off, I checked back in:
Should I trust him? Saturday night in New Orleans, going to the gym, I don’t think so. I doubt New Orleans has any gyms. My invisible emotions are on a roller coaster. I’m gonna open that wine (it’s just now noon) and start “The Prince” by Tiffany Reisz. Soren and Nora should clear my mind.
I’ve thought about this for at least 5 minutes, and I have decided to get my 10 free texts, and end my invisible relationship with Colston. Going to the gym, on a Saturday night in New Orleans, whether he’s lying or not, it is totally unacceptable. I mean who even does that? It’s over!

So has anyone else tried Invisible Boyfriend? Bigger question – has anyone paid $$ to continue a long term relationship with their virtual boyfriend? What was the reaction of your book boyfriends?
