ADOW Season 2 Looks Amazing
First of all, when I think about A Discovery of Witches season 2, I am imagining one of the best seasons of fantasy television ever. Season 1 was such an incredibly welcome surprise – a perfect adaptation of great book – that my expectations for season 2 are really high. They have more industry attention, a bigger budget, and a bigger episode order. Plus Shadow of Night (Book 2) takes place (almost entirely) in Elizabethan London so the tone and feel will be totally different. But so far, that tone, that feel, that aesthetic looks amazing.
We’ve finally arrived at Elizabethan London…

That’s right. That doublet. That stomacher. Those eye-buttons. Teresa Palmer’s absolute awe as she gazes on historical London for the first time, and Matthew Goode’s proud little smirk at showing off his gorgeous wife. It’s all right there in one early promo shot. SO here for it. I wasn’t sure I could be MORE excited for ADOW season 2 after this. But then, Deborah Harkness started releasing season 2 cast announcements, and she saved the best for first.
Steven Cree is Gallowglass
We warmly welcome @MrStevenCree to the cast of @ADiscoveryOfWTV as your Gallowglass. #WeAreAllSouls ♥️ pic.twitter.com/1jhvdcoSpt

Fans of Outlander will know Steven for his “seminal wooden leg acting” as co-star Sam Heughan put it, or as trustworthy, forthright, stable and unfortunately be-wigged Ian Murray. Anyone who’s spent any time in the Outlander fandom will now that Steven is THE scamp. He is THAT BITCH. He takes no shit from annoying, intrusive fans who expect actors to shut up and look pretty, and he shuts them down in gorgeous twitter fashion. HE’s sarcastic and ridiculous in the best ways.
And now … he’s Gallowglass. Gallowglass is a de Clermont vampire, Matthew’s nephew, whose sweet attention to Diana in Shadow of Night will become something of a twisted tale that earns him one of the top spots in the All Souls Characters to Love A Lot List. Described as a blonde giant, he’s a fierce warrior with a strict code of honor. He loves his family, has a witty sensibility and shows both in every fan’s favorite catchphrase.

Kill me. I cannot WAIT.
Are These All the Souls Or …
The casting news kept coming as season 2 is fully underway they couldn’t really keep these guys under wraps for much longer. Next up was everyone’s favorite patriarch, Phillipe de Clermont played by James Purefoy.
We are so excited to share that @JamesPurefoy will be playing Philippe de Clermont in @ADiscoveryOfWTV. #WeAreAllSouls #TeamPhilippe pic.twitter.com/JUx1kMZAE0

Most of us know him from the litany of TV series he’s been on, including Rome, but I will always see him as Tom Bertram from Mansfield Park because I am nothing if not a girl who watched every Austen adaptation available on a non-stop loop in the early aughts. Responsible for some of the teariest scenes in Shadow of Night, Phillipe is one of the lynch pins in the story this season. So much of it hinges on him, his chemistry with Diana, and his history with Matthew.
Season 2 is beset with secondary characters because as any good All Souls fan will tell you: the books are beset with secondary characters. The School of Night which includes Matthew and Kit Marlowe, being played by Tom Hughes, also includes other historical figures like Sir Walter Raleigh (Michael Lindall), and Henry Percy (Adam Sklar). Queen Elizabeth, played by Barbara Marten, will even show up.
The cast is rounding out really nicely, and I’m excited to see Louisa de Clermont played by Elaine Cassidy especially. She looks formidable.
Welcome to the cast @ElaineCassidy_ as your nothing but trouble Louisa de Clermont. You all just WAIT to see her in action in @ADiscoveryOfWTV #WeAreAllSouls pic.twitter.com/VV9uer4DHU
