Let’s take a minute to unpack this.
First, the Photoshop job is atrocious. Anyone with eyes can see that. However, I’m not going to dwell on it, because Sam and Cait said it best in their tweets:

Second, I can’t help but wonder if they had Jamie holding the baby in a too-little-too-late attempt to placate fans for omitting Jamie being there for Bree during her labor. While the attempt at a concession is appreciated, Jamie looks like he is about to straight up kidnap Jem. Especially since the rest of the family is standing off to the side. Here is actual footage of Starz trying to make this whole “Jamie missed the birth” situation better:
Third, Beth covered our initial reaction to the new Jamie/Claire wigs in her post here, but let us just quickly recognize that Bree and Roger’s wigs are also looking AMAZING. AND, Roger is clothed in an appropriate amount of layers, isn’t wearing capris, and no longer looks homeless! To the hair, makeup, and costume departments:
Lastly, as fan reactions have been rolling in, people have been cropping Roger out of the photo so it features only the Frasers. For example:

People. PEOPLE. It’s one promo photo. ERRRRBODY NEEDS TO TAKE A LAP. I’m hoping, as we all are, that we get some quality Fraser family time in Season 5. But Roger isn’t going anywhere. Diana has made it pretty damn clear that both he and Bree are one of several protagonists in this story, including J & C.
I personally think that the show writing is NOT doing the character of Roger any favors at all (and I’m only like a quarter of the way through Drums of Autumn, but Show Roger and Book Roger are night and day). BUT HE’S AROUND FOR THE LONG HAUL, HERE, FOLKS. You can crop him out all you want, but love him or hate him, he’s gonna be in the story.
THE VIDEO
SO, for as many qualms as I had about the photo… the behind the scenes video made me happy.
GUYYYYYSSS. No weird Photoshop. All the tiny humans! Lauren and Cesar and Caitlin! Richard and Sophie being silly and cute! Sam and Cait being goofy and drinking coffee and making hearts with their hands!
I mean, it just brought joy to my cold dead heart. Even if it does have a random shot of Jamie from Season 4. Maybe that is Outlander’s version of the Infamous Game Of Thrones Starbucks Cup.
DAMMIT JAMMF, I thought we just ditched the bangs!!
Also, as a TV person, I just have to give props to the sound recordist, because that is the longest boom pole I have ever seen (insert dirty joke here).
