If you’re like me, a few months back when news of the Roswell reboot came out, you had a friend text to share all the details. And then if you’re like us you put it on the calendar as a meeting, cause obvi, the return of Roswell to the CW is IMPORTANT, calendar-worthy stuff. DUH. After marking the calendar (with several reminders, natch), I begin to dive back into the show courtesy of Hulu! And it made me wonder… what WOULD the new show be like, the characters will be the same, the location is the same but what about the storylines? They’ve changed the title of the show, and aged up the characters, so we won’t be seeing any high school scenes or part time jobs at the Crashdown Cafe, but how can it be Roswell, without them?
So I got to thinking… if they’re going to update the show, then we need to at least see a few things from the original show as an homage to the fans who tuned in every week when there was NO DVR and networks ran like, 22 episodes a season! Here’s my list of the the things I gotta see in CW’s reboot of Roswell, New Mexico.

The Crashdown Cafe
The scene of the crime so to speak… it looks like we’re going to see a repeat of this all over again and I’m so excited to revisit this familiar location. Instead of Sheriff Valenti, it looks like we have Sherif Max! HELLLLOOO! The only thing missing? The alien aprons.

The Jeep
The Jeep that Max, Isabel, and Michael shared in Roswell was ICONIC. I remember wishing I could drive around in something as cool as their beat up vintage army Jeep. Then I remembered I lived in Arizona and would probably sweat to death in my cool beat up, vintage army Jeep.

Michael and Maria
(This song is awful, I’m sorry. But you gotta love a fanvid!)
The Love/Hate relationship of Michael and Maria is the antidote to the doe-eyed, saccharine sweet, angsty love of Liz and Max. This reboot better feature a sassy, hip Maria with haircuts that change by the episode of I’m gonna start picketing. Oh and the new Micheal (played by Michael Vlamis) does NOT look the orphan-teen boy with the shock of crazy hair from the original series… but according to the trailer he still lives in, well… a trailer! So things are looking up on the Michael/Maria front.

Alex Whitman and Isabel Evans
There’s some storylines like the hot chick wanting to bone the dorky guy that are eternal and NEED to be seen. And in this case it’s Colin Hanks and Katherine Heigl, the smartest two out of everyone on Roswell, so I’m here for it and it needs to be in the new series and with equally as awesome actors. Or who cares, just bring back Colin and Katherine. Done!

Crash Into Me

If you’re a mega Roswell fan like me, you definitely remember a very pivotal scene in the pilot which Max tells Liz they can’t be together because he’s not like her, he’s different. And if your heart didn’t clinch, you are a grinch.
Speaking of amazing music (go with me on this), Roswell, like most WB shows of it’s time had amazing soundtracks and iconic moments set to popular music. Roswell was no different, from Garbage to Hole, and Save Ferris, to the perennial WB fave: Sarah Mclachlan, the music supervisors knew what they were doing, and even though the DVDs and Hulu version no longer have a lot of these songs, which is a TRAGEDY of many 90s, early aughts shows, the memories of those musical moments live on. I need to see the reboot use some of these songs like Crash and especially Dido’s Here With Me (the show’s theme song) in a special way. And if they’re smart, they’ll use an updated version of Here With Me for the new theme song. COME ON CW!!! I’m giving you ALL the hints here.

I know from following the new Roswell Instagram that Liz Parker herself, Shiri Appleby DIRECTS an episode!!!!! Which hello, we love, but also I feel like we really need a good easter egg or two, or perhaps even a real character played by the original gang. You know Jason Behr, Brendan Fehr, Majandra Delfino, and DEFINITELY Katherine Heigl have some free time on their hands. And come on Colins Hanks, stop selling HANKSkerchiefs and head on down to set! Make this happen CW!

CW’s Roswell, New Mexico premieres next week, January 15th and you know who will be front and center, ready and waiting for the return of the gang to my living room.
