During the festival this year, we moderated a panel with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke and the heads of Marketing and PR from Summit Entertainment and the entire Twilight franchise. It was awesome, and we got to see NEVER BEFORE SHARED photos from when Rob and Kristen first met, pictures from Catherine’s costume tests with the Twilight cast, plus hear stories about bags of money being dropped off to people who stole scripts and computers with copies of the movie to keep them quiet. FOR REAL.
Before our panel discussion, we did a presentation to share exactly WHY THE HELL we were up there on stage. It’s a presentation we’ve given before— we talk about how Twilight changed our lives . If you’ve been around for awhile you’ve heard different versions of it:
We watched Twilight, we were crazy about it, we started to make fun of ourselves and Twilight online with our website Letters to Twilight (LTT), Stephenie Meyer started reading LTT, we got to take a cardboard cut out of Rob Pattinson in his underwear to the red carpet, we started That’s Normal, and then Stephenie Meyer and her Production co. Fickle Fish Films became our first client at Method Agency.
It’s our business story AND our fandom story. And this was the first time we’ve presented it to FANS. It was really fun to share things from our crazy LTT days, and we dug deep into our archives to pull out some fun things to share:
And then we remembered how that one time I made an online dating profile for Rob Pattinson, on a Trucker’s Dating Website.
What if Rob Wasn’t Famous
We wrote about Twilight (and Rob Pattinson ) 7 days a week for over 4 years. We ran out of things to talk about OFTEN. I can’t tell you how many nights I was pulling things out the inner-most random/weird workings of my brain at 12:30 in the morning because I had to write a post for the next morning. And because of this, we made up a LOT of things on our website. We created “personalities” for the Twilight cast that were based on exaggerations of things we read or observed. For example, Kellan Lutz once said The Purpose Driven Life was his favorite book, so we made up a whole storyline of him being a fratboy-esque Christian. He was trying so hard to live the straight and narrow but he failed often with booze and women.
And no one got this special treatment more than Rob Pattinson.
One of our favorite series was “What if Rob Wasn’t Famous?” where we imagined what Rob would be like if he was not famous.
So one night, because it was probably 12:30 am and I had nothing else to write, I found a website called Truckerpassions.com. I signed up and created a profile for Rob Pattinson. It was a real profile that stayed on their website for a few days before they realized and took it down. And irt looked like this:
A few highlights:
- His username was: MotherTruckinBrit
- Hi Education Level was: ain’t had no skoolin
- His bio said “see ya on the road. Im the one passing ya, honking’ if you’re hott and mooning’ ya if you’re not!”
- His favorite movies were: nothing but porn
- His hair style was: always covered with a camo hat
It’s so good. Mostly because it was inspired by an actual photo of Rob in Lubbock, TX. Read the whole post here and the whole series of “What if Rob Wasn’t Famous? “ if you dare!
