Colleen Hoover’s Newest Book Will Break Your Heart

in Books on 07/26/18 by Heidi Leave a Comment

You know that feeling when traffic is slowing, you can see emergency lights up ahead, and you just know that something bad has happened and you shouldn’t look, but you can’t stop? That moment when you drive by and catch a glimpse of someone else’s bad day, or maybe even their tragedy and suddenly you’re swept up in their story even while you continue on your way. And sometimes, what you saw stays with you, because it could have been you, or maybe it will be someday and that thought is terrifying.

That’s what reading All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover is like.

All Your Perfects Colleen Hoover

Quinn and Graham have a perfect love story, but their unique connection is threatened by their imperfect marriage. The memories, mistakes, and secrets that they have built up over the years are now tearing them apart, day by heartbreaking day. The one thing that could save them might also be the very thing that pushes their marriage beyond the point of repair. So do they risk it? Is their history worth saving?

All Your Perfects is a profound novel about a damaged couple struggling with a relatable issue – infertility – whose potential future hinges on promises made in the past. In Colleen Hoover’s inimitable style and brilliant narrative voice, this heartbreaking page-turner asks: Can a resounding love with a fairytale beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people?

The most powerful editing decision Colleen Hoover made when writing All Your Perfects  was shifting Quinn and Graham’s story from past to present. By doing so she told their story in such a way that you feel their relationship unraveling at the same time you experience it blossoming. And believe me, you’ll live for those high moments. Those descriptions of how they met and fell in love are what get you through the painful chapters describing infertility, brokenness, and loneliness.

But that’s exactly the point.

This is a book about love. The kind of love that turns you inside out and upside down. The kind of love that has all of the high points to help anchor you through those Category Five moments that inevitably come. That kind of love isn’t perfect, but it is worth it.

I devoured Graham and Quinn’s story in one heartbreaking, hilarious, and heartfelt night huddled in bed with my e-reader next to my snoring husband. I cried, I laughed, and I held my breath and prayed that they’d make it through. And when it comes down to it, I can’t think of a better description of love than that.

I’ve never wanted to skip to the last page of a book to see how it ended so badly in my entire life.

All Your Perfects is on sale now. Buy it here.
