Fox Goes 50/50 on Fall TV

in TV on 05/18/18 by Emily Leave a Comment

Fox goes fifty-fifty for me on their four new shows offered in their upfronts. The two dramas are hits in my book but the comedies are misses. More info from their presentation and stuff I read on Deadline: One reason they brought back Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing was the rating success of Roseanne, not the politics. The next iteration of Prison Break is early stages of development. There are new ideas for new 24 series with a female lead but no details. What won’t be back? X-Files. Gillian Anderson is out. And now for the new shows for the fall:

THE PASSAGE

Based on Justin Cronin’s novel of the same name, Mark-Paul Gosselaar plays lead Brad Wolgast in this zombie-vampire hybird thriller where a government experiment goes awry turning death row inmates into highly infections creatures. The only person able to stop it is an orphan girl and Wolgast is her protector. I don’t watch Walking Dead, but I know many are upset at the direction it went. Maybe this show can fill it’s place.

PROVEN INNOCENT

I know we joke about #egbtt, but it does, look! Rachelle Lefevre, the OG Victoria leads this cast in Proven Innocent as Madeline Scott. Scott was wrongly accused of murder when she was younger. She’s since gone to law school and now tackles the cases of those who may have been wrongly convicted. There have been a few other shows about this subject, Hayley Atwell’s Conviction and in 2006 Kyle Maclachlan stared on In Justice. I think any light that can be given to the Innocence Project is a good thing.

THE COOL KIDS

Life in a nursing home with David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence, and Leslie Jordan. Okay, I guess?

REL

I haven’t seen Get Out, but I’m told Lil Rel had a great role in it. Here it looks like Rel’s life has fallen apart after his wife has left him. Again, not my thing, maybe it’s yours…
