The Cast
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, (for real, I was three when the original came out), I was a bit nervous about who would be stepping into Harrison Ford’s shoes. The man taking on this daunting task is Alden Ehrenreich. Although I have not seen him onscreen before, he has some impressive credentials. He’s been cast by Francis Ford Coppola (Tetro, Twixt) and Woody Allen (Blue Jasmine) and has fangirl (fanboy) cred having appeared in Beautiful Creatures from the Caster Chronicles. But does he have what it takes to embody our beloved Han?
Roguishly handsome, check.
Sufficiently sarcastic, check.
Sexy arrogant smile, check.
Ok, enough Han (like that’s a thing), after all he won’t be flying solo. The cast is pretty stellar.
Woody Harrelson (Hunger Games), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Emilia Clark (Game of Thrones), Donald Glover (Atlanta), and Thandie Newton (West World not pictured), round out the cast. Under the seasoned direction of Ron Howard, (the original directors pictured above left the project last June due to creative differences) I feel the franchise is in safe hands.
Other Notable Elements
We get a Han and Chewbacca origin story. Who doesn’t love a good bromance (bralienmance?).
New Droid L3-37 (that just rolls off the tongue)
Whatever is happening here. I don’t know what it is, but I like it!
Powerful Women
Thandie is looking fierce, I would expect no less.
As far as I’m concerned Emilia Clarke can do no wrong. #girlcrush
Having missed the teaser during the Super Bowl, because frankly I was hanging out near the food and drinking wine with my girls, I am pretty excited about Solo. Besides that Star Wars Episode III debacle (I’m looking at you Hayden Christensen), the franchise generally lives up to the hype. I’m ready for Solo and whatever comes next. Rumors of Kenobe: A Star Wars Story, are already circulating but nothing has been confirmed.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens May 25th
