“I haven’t seen you in awhile. How are things?”
“Oh I’ve been so busy!”
We wear our business like a badge of honour. But no one seems happy about it. Is busyness really all it’s cracked up to be?
It was sometime last summer when I started to feel, well, off. Not depressed. Not anxious but just not right. It wasn’t health related. Something was just not working but I wasn’t quite sure what it was. What I did know was that it felt like I was not experiencing life the way I wanted.
There was too much. Too much of everything.
Too much stuff. Too much to do. Too many expectations. Too much to keep up with.
There needed to be less. I needed less and I needed slow.
And so it began… My journey into less. My journey into slow.
I wanted to slow….
My stuff – OMG THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF IN MY HOUSE! Can I let it go?
The news – Is the 24 hour news cycle and being connected to all things all the time necessary?
Local life – Can I learn to appreciate all that my local community has to offer while still embracing slow?
It started with taking a breath. A real breath. The kind where you exhale slowly and let the tension in your jaw and shoulders relax. Breathe in for a count of four…. Hold for a beat… Then exhale for a count of eight. It takes only a few seconds but makes a world of difference when you feel that everything is too much. Remember that feeling and that breath. It will come in handy on this journey into slow that I am about to take you on.
