Spoilers Ahead for Seasons 1 and 2
Man Plans, Gods Laugh
At the end of last season, Quentin and the gang joined forces to save Fillory. Fillory was having a run of bad luck, thanks to Ember’s case of the runs into the world’s center for all things magic, the wellspring.
We learn all of Fillory’s troubles come down to a simple case of boredom. What’s a god to do when the world he created and all the people in it stop entertaining him? Destroy them all! Our favorite magicians are able to devise a plan to pit Ember against his brother Umber, leading to Umber’s death. They use the power exerted from the god’s death to create a sword that will kill Ember. They kill Ember, and everyone lives happily ever after.
Not so much! It turns out Ember and Umber are two squabbling little boys compared to their parents, who are none too pleased to discover that lowly beings on Earth and Fillory were powerful enough to kill their children. They send the plumber of the universe to flip the switch and shut off magic!
No Mag
Now that we’re all caught up, let’s see what we can glean from this new trailer. Our powerless magicians are struggling to make it in a world with no magic and realizing they took their gifts for granted when they had them. Although, it appears Julia has a few sparks left in her. Will she be able to fan the flames and use her abilities to help her friends? We meet a bird thing (that strangely resembles some cross-dressing version of Penny, if you ask me) who bestows some interesting nicknames (the torture artist?) upon each member of the gang, along with a quest to find some keys. These keys will supposedly unlock the solution to restoring magic. Considering their history with magical creatures making them promises, I would be a little suspicious of bird-man’s epic quest if I were them. But what can go wrong when you have ’07 Britney on your side?
