The 5 episode arc will pick up where S10 left off, with a mysterious virus loosed on the world’s population by a shady cabal of powerful men. Two of the epis are penned by Chris Carter, which usually means heavy mythology, so we may finally find out what the aliens/abductions/black oil stuff is really all about in the long game. The remaining episodes are penned by Darin Morgan, Glenn Morgan, and James Wong, the masters of one-off scary/hilarious shows, and promise some new all-time classics.
In addition to non-stop action, the teases are chock-full of Mulder-Scully feels, and I am so here for that! I am adamantly anti-IRL shipping, but the chemistry between Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, on and off screen, is off-the-charts amazing! So to usher in the new season of The X-Files, let’s celebrate the 10 times X-Files twitter made me dead:
1. Second-hand embarrassment
Here at TN, we are connoisseurs of the “fan event photo” genre. This one gets an A+++ because it hits all the categories: obscure show reference (red speedo is Mulder’s from the S2 Duane Berry episode), questionable placement of naughty props, merch from a totally different show (Shameless shirt), and stars heroically soldiering through this brutal rite of convention passage. You are heroes, one and all!
2. Such babies
What helium-induced nonsense is that?! And those bangs! God help me.

This video not only gives good Santa conspiracy theory, but also reacquaints us with hot, young Mulder of the magnificent hair! Not to mention, witnessing Gillian’s increasing hotness trajectory over time gives life to all of us vintage fans, making this video worth its weight in gold.
3. X-Philes FTW
This is the best playlist ever.

X-Files fans do not screw around with fanning. This is an actual playlist on Spotify, and it is perfection. I salute you, person who did this, and give you extra props for calling out the gender pay inequality that, in the year of our Lord 2017, still plagues our favorite show.
4. Smexiliciousness
I LITERALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS, BUT I DON’T CARE BECAUSE
Hawwwwwwt!
5. Oh, the nostalgia
24 years today. Deja vu all over again. Thanks for repeatedly standing in the mud & the rain with me @davidduchovny. @thexfiles #TheXFiles 👽 pic.twitter.com/l8Ov8AcWQp

Whenever I tell my X-Files history to millennials, it’s a bit like I’m recounting memories of storming the beaches of Normandy: I watched The X-Files pilot on September 10, 1993 on a 13″ black and white TV I bought from Goodwill for my first apartment in San Francisco. I could barely see the picture because I was in a shitty basement apartment, and was getting my reception through rabbit ears with balls of tin foil on the tops for boost. So I was basically watching a patch of gray fuzz the size of a postage stamp with sound, and I was still hooked. I love this fucking show. #4eva.
6. Food fetishes

Usually I can’t stand it when people post their food all day on social media. I will, however, make an exception in the case of David snacking on Gillian’s moist muffin.
7. And their little dogs too
As if Gillian and David aren’t cute enough, they both have cute dogs (Nelson and Brick) who also cute at each other over Twitter. Stop. Just stop.
8. Shipper catnip
They're closer than they've ever been to the truth… and each other. 😱 #TheXFiles pic.twitter.com/ph3OISM3ki

I may hate IRL-shipping, but I LOOOOOOVE the canon shipping! And these clips are dripping with it! OMG the handcuff bit – you naughty kids! Can.not.wait.
9. All the celebrity love

The X Files boasts a big celebrity nerd fan club, as evidenced by this moving TV Guide cover homage by Craig Robinson and Adam Scott. If David and Gillian decide to hang up their badges, I am 100% behind this reboot.
10. The feeeeeeeeeelings!
Some things never change. #tbt pic.twitter.com/I1fBPe1jHi

They were so young and green, now they are so mature, and have seen so much. It’s been 24 years and they are still together, and still kicking, and I cannot! Dead. I’m dead. I died. The end.
Bonus: That time the Season 11 trailer made me dead
Great action sequences – check!
William is the key to everything – check!
Langley back from the dead – check!
Super-stern Skinner face – check!
A fight for the future of humanity – check!
Not to mention special appearances by the Smoking Man, Jeffrey Spencer and Monica Reyes. It’s like the Love Boat of X-Filing! I predict a mini-micro season of maxi-macro awesome!
So get ready for the new season by brushing up on season 10 recaps here, and tune for the season premiere of the X-Files, January 3rd 9/8c on FOX!
