Hygge! Ugh.
Source
While I hate this home decor buzzword, I pretty much just described Hygge in the last paragraph so I’m gonna lean into this Danish term and get so freaking cozy this fall, you might mistake me for one of those fuzzy sweaters grandmas gift during the Holidays. First, in my quest for Hygge is to figure out how to even say the freaking word, it’s “hoooga” apparently and according to Country Living (the bible for the Danish culture and language, obvi), Hygge means:
“This Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life.”
This essentially means I’m going to hibernate this winter, read books, light expensive candles from Anthro, join our beta meal prep group here on TN, use a crockpot (Instapot, what?), wear leggings, and temper my jealousy while looking through thousands of Danish Modern designed homes on Apartment Therapy. This also means I’m going to fully unpack my house. Remember when I said summer are crazy for me? I moved in July and half of my house is still in boxes. I NEED to Hygge this fall.
PANTS!
Source
Though I usually live in ankle length pants, fall is gonna see me roll out some new overall styles. I fell in love with a linen pair over the summer and in the spirit of not freezing my boobs off (SoCal freezing, don’t judge), I’ve been eyeing a few denim and velvet pairs…
COATS and Jackets!
It’s might have been a year since the 2016 Election but we’re even more a pantsuit nation than we ever were. From raging against the machine at the women’s march and equal pay march and all the way down to our wardrobe, I’m on a lookout for a new over sized suit jacket to keep the flame alive (and my buns warm).
Flatforms!
Source
I want to hate flatforms based on the name alone but I am in love with their high-rise, squishy ways. I bought my first flatform, an oxford, last fall in London and I am a convert! Flatform sandals, slip-on’s, espadrilles, you name it, I’ve tried it on or bought it. Not only are they low-key stylish in any situation, they’re much better for your feet than standard shoes because of all the extra cushion.
Weekend Trips for Apple Cider Doughnuts!
If you live in LA or Southern California and are looking for a fall day trip or weekend getaway and want to take in the colors, the nip in the air and perhaps some fall goodness like apples and pumpkins, you gotta visit Oak Glen, California.
The must visits include:
Snow-line Orchard – High on my list is Snow-line Orchard, they have the most amazing, stand-in-a-long-line-for, Apple Cider Donuts! Along with their newly opened wine tasting room (hard cider, various wine varietals), and all the delicious apples you can taste on the spot, this is a must see!
Riley’s Farm – Looking for a little more entertainment? Head over to Riley’s Farm where they go above and beyond the standard apple picking with their annual Legend of Sleepy Hallow production complete with a real headless horseman, hay rides and cookout. Grab your friends who aren’t afraid of a little kitsch and plan a trip!
Oaktree Village – This is a great place to start your Oak Glen trip, the Oaktree Village is a collection of shops, bakeries, a cafe and some outdoor vendors all in one easy location. I bought some amazing apple butter last year and just might take the plunge this year on one of their skyhigh apple pies that looks almost phallic in shape.
You can do ALL of these in one day or spread it out over a weekend.
Music To Cozy Up To
Francis and the Lights – May I Have This Dance feat Chance the Rapper
First Aid Kit – The Swedish sister duo have new music coming out and here’s their new single.
It’s a wild world out there these days, I hope this fall you’ll take a little extra care of yourself, try out some Hygge, eat some apple cider doughnuts, get outta town and give a platform a whirl!
.
Happy Fall!
