I could go on and on about lipsticks, I recently emptied out my purse before a trip and found six different shades in my bag… from the classic Mac Ruby Woo to Kate Moss’s collection with Rimmel (my FAVE drugstore brand), her shade 107 is almost the perfect blood red color. Butttt I wanna tell you about the color I use every day and then my current red obsession. First up, Covergirl’s Outlast Lipstain in Scarlett Pucker.
Imagine applying your lip stuff with a felt Magic Marker, now you know why I use it EVERY day! It’s easy to apply, it lasts and I throw on a coat of balm over the top and I’m good to go. I also layer it UNDER every red lipstick I own to provide a base and for the lipstick color to really be punchy. It’s literally sitting next to my computer right now and it so worn out I had to look up the name of the color. I buy a new one every few months and they LAST.
My current fave classic lipstick obsession is MAC’s Zac Posen: Matte Dangerously Red:
Of course Zac Posen would pick super on-trend but classic colors… this red has a bright pink tint to it that makes it young and fun but still adult from the classic red undertones and the matte texture. I am IN love with Matte Lipsticks and this is one of my faves, I even love the smell, it’s not the usual Mac scent and it makes it fun to open each time.
My favorite perfume is Chanel’s Chance eau Fraiche:
It’s fresh but floral, light but deep. It’s essentially the perfect perfume for both day and night. I spritz this on, hop in the elevator to leave and I’ve been asked countless times what the scent is called. Chanel describes it as: “A whirlwind of energy and vitality intertwines the zesty freshness of Citron with the softness of Jasmine and the vibrant presence of Teak Wood.” And the color! Get it!

My go-to for a bright, fun red lipstick is Revlon Ultra HD in Poinsettia (#840) and my go-to for a pop of red lip gloss is Revlon Super Lustrous in Fatal Apple / Pomme Fatale (#240). Totally sexier in French lol What I love about both of these is that they provide moisture and are NOT sticky. It took me ages to find a lip gloss that wasn’t sticky. I looooove my Revlon one so much that I bought a ton of backups just in case they discontinue it. Both are under $10 at local drugstore.
I rarely wear perfume because most scents give me a headache or make me feel nauseous, however, I do really enjoy Versace’s Versus. In a super quick google search for it, I found out that Donatella Versace said this about the fragrance:
“Versus is pure energy. I wanted a perfume which would express the strong contrast of a romantic yet tough femininity. This intense fragrance is dedicated to the woman who loves to dare.”
Yup, sounds about right 🙂 I got this teeny tiny one years ago, but looks like a normal size goes for about $30-$40 online. I don’t think Versace officially sells it anymore, just at fragrance stores. (Or here on Amazon)

I don’t wear a ton of make up but I do get my monthly ipsy bag and am always excited to see what treats they have in there. I have since purchased full sizes of many things I’ve been sampled.
My recent favorite lipstick was actually a Matte Lip Crayon from tre’StiQue. This makes my lips so super happy. It didn’t dry them out and the color lasted me most of the day. I got the Belize Bordeaux but it is available in many more colors!
Perfume wise, my current scent came from an ipsy bag too. At first I was very confused because it was called “Realtree” and when you google Realtree, weird things pop up. Like “the #1 resource for camouflage, but provides you with the latest hunting tips and tactics.” This cannot be the same people who make this perfume. I click on the store and it’s more camo and hats, and beer coozies. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that, I grew up in square state Colorado where everyone hunts and wears camo…but where is the dang perfume! This time I tried Realtree perfume and found Realtree Beauty where I found my perfume.
From their site:
Realtree Mountain Series for Her opens up with a distinctive combination of red orange, green tea and amber, mingling with jasmine, bergamot and red rose. The scent of freesia, orange flower and patcholi are the lingering notes. I love this this scent. It is fresh and not over powering. Check it out on Amazon.

I spend an absurd amount of money on lipsticks that live forgotten on the bottom of my makeup bag despite my best intentions to wear them. I figured that’s where my 2016 Sephora birthday gift of Marc Jacobs’ Kiss Kiss Bang Bang would end up too, but I have since gone out and purchased it three times so it’s always accessible. I love this lipstick. I love the one I keep in my bathroom, the one I have in my car, and the one I keep in my purse. It is the perfect creamy deep rose and when they say it lasts 10 hours, they mean it. I’m not even mad that I just realized I’ve spent approximately $100 on this single shade of lipstick. I may need to reassess my life choices. At least my lips will look good while I do it.
When it comes to perfume I have one tried and true favorite. Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche has become my signature scent to the point that if my daughter smells it she asks if it’s time for church. It’s either Chanel Chance or smell like the goldfish crackers I had for lunch so I’ll take it.

Fun Fact: I have tiny lips. And I LOVE wearing dark lipstick when going out. So what that means is that the color bleeds. Always. Don’t start with your “you need this lip liner etc. etc.” advice. It doesn’t work. It will always bleed off of my lip and land right above my lips, making me look like Bekah Buttons the Clown. I remember once, after a long night out, looking at myself in the mirror, lipstick smeared all over in the clownlike-fashion it loves to mirror, and said to my partner, “WHY DID YOU NOT SAY ANYTHING?” And he shrugged and said “I thought it was supposed to be like that. It looks like it normally does.”

Anyway, my favorite red lipstick to smear all of my face is: NARS Velvet Matte Lip in Cruella
This bad boy is coming up at $37.99 on Amazon. Which seems insane, but… I’ve bought it once. So maybe it lasts a lifetime. Found you a travel size for an affordable $15.
I’m really mad I’m sharing my favorite perfume because now you’ll all smell amazing like me. But THIS LOVE HAS MY HEART: Fresh Citron de Vigne
Do yourself a favor and get yourself to a Sephora to try the whole Fresh line. They come in awesome travel roll-ons too!

Seriously, I love red lip stick. I’ll wear that junk to the grocery store! It’s fun and who cares in the long run? No one is going to sit down at dinner and say to their family, “Honey, there was a lady at the store wearing red lip stick! I had to walk away from the frozen peas! That’s why we’re having green beans from a can instead”. I think ANYONE can rock it!
On my red Lipstick wish list is the color that Hayley Atwell wore in Agent Carter: Bèsame 1946 – Red Velvet Lipstick

MAC is the best lipstick brand. All other lipstick brands are irrelevant. And the best red shade of lipstick is MAC’s Ruby Woo. This stuff lasts. And lasts. And lasts some more. It’s matte and the red/blue is universally flattering. I first bought this lipstick post-divorce as a pick-me-up, and I have been rocking it ever since. Its got so much pop, I usually only wear it with mascara and single swipe of blush. (I recommend getting it with the matching liner, since it’s very matte. Helps with application.)
Kiss lots of boys while wearing: Ruby Woo, MAC, $17.
I wrote about my search for my favorite perfume last year (Le Labo: I Smell Like a Hotel).
It smelled like Ricky Martin and Roger Federer had a baby on a bed of bergamot and cedar. It was everywhere. It was glorious. As an asthmatic, I’m highly sensitive to bad perfumes. This was not bad perfume. The way I felt about this smell reminded me of the first time I inhaled Calvin Klein Eternity in 1987. It felt like coming home (to Ricky and Roger and their baby).
Le Labo’s Thé Noir 29 has hints of tea and tobacco. I want to drink it and smoke it.
Buy it from Nordstrom, 1.7 ounces for $175.

Surprise! You can probably tell from every live hangout we’ve ever done, but I don’t know shit about makeup. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on either. I will bankrupt myself buying moisturizer and retinol, but I will wear the same blush for 2 decades. So, when I go to Target to find a red lipstick under $10 that doesn’t make my lower lip look like The Last Supper, I pick up Rimmel’s #11. Kate Moss was my spirit animal in 1998, so we’ve still got a year left before I abandon her.
Toss it in your cart with your clementines and your new pillows at Target for $4.
I also don’t know shit about perfume. My mom unilaterally wore Love’s Baby Soft as a young woman (vom), and I wore Exclamation! as a tween and Sunflowers and CK1 as a teen. I am a cliche. But I once got Harvey Prince’s Hello in a Birchbox, and I wore that sample to the vapors. I still love it; it’s light and fresh and the tiniest bit citrusy. And apparently it’s vegan and organic and other things that other people care about.
Smell like you aren’t wearing perfume for $52 on Amazon.
