Black Panther Is The Cat Prince Of Your Dreams

in Marvel on 05/10/16 by Jamie W 6 Comments

Captain America: Civil War is officially out and a part of our lives. It’s a thing of beauty. Many of us at That’s Normal have seen it, and a huge, rambling post of all of our thoughts is probably forthcoming. But there is something that can’t wait. I have to gush real quick about Black Panther aka T’Challa aka King of Wakanda aka one of the best parts of the movie.

Spoilers for Civil War ahead

I knew basically nothing about this character before going into the movie because I don’t read the comics. I thought he looked amazing in the trailers, but there’s no way to know if that’s going to translate to the movie. He had such a good character arc. He was hell bent on killing Bucky, the man who he believes murdered his father in a bombing at the UN, and honestly gets pretty close. Bucky is all, “It wasn’t me!” and T’Challa is all

And that suit! In his first scene, Prince T’Challa doesn’t seem to have a very high opinion of diplomacy, so it would make sense that he he had this thing ready to go in case something went down. Or, he could have had it put together after he becomes the King, since he explains that the black panther is the protector of his country. Either way, it’s kick ass. It literally deflects bullets.

They don’t even knock him back! By the end of the movie, when he realizes that it was actually the movie’s main villain Zemo (disguised as Bucky) who killed his father, T’Challa doesn’t exact the revenge that he’s been hell bent on. He finds himself alone with Zemo while Steve, Tony, and Bucky are all fighting each other, but steps back and says,

Vengeance has consumed you. It’s consuming them. I am done letting it consume me.

Not only that, he then stops Zemo from killing himself. And in the first post-credits scene, we learn that Bucky wants to go back into cryo-freeze until the psychological triggers that Hydra implanted in him can be dealt with. Where is he during this scene? A medical facility in Wakanda. T’Challa wants to do right by him and help take care of him. If that’s the kind of characterization he gets in his few scenes in Civil War, I can not wait to see what his standalone movie is going to be like. Bring it on, Marvel.

Other things that Black Panther does that are fantazing

Holds on to Clint’s exploding arrows like it’s nothing and catches a ride on Steve’s car.
