Yesterday we talked all about the matchmaking and how our experts were able to find 6 needles in a 7,000 person haystack that they felt compatible enough to marry. This time around we find out that our couples have 10 days from the time they are matched until the wedding date.
Breaking the News
I liked the new aspect of seeing how the singles break the news to their family and how parents respond. Sean’s parents aren’t happy, Davina’s mother won’t come to the wedding. Her best friend gives her away. Jacklyn’s large family is ecstatic and Ryan R.’s niece is super excited. Jessica’s parents are super supportive and Ryan D.’s mom is a little hard to read. I started crying when Jessica asked her step-father to walk her down the aisle. Let’s be honest, I cried like 10 times in this episode!
Let’s meet the couples…
Davina & Sean
Davina, 34, pharmaceutical sales rep. Davina’s single mother put herself through school and served as a positive role model for both her and her sister. As a child, Davina experienced significant bullying due to her race in the small town she was raised. Despite a less than perfect family life as a young girl, Davina would like to start a family of her own in the near future. She wants someone with a witty sense of humor who is emotionally available, honest, loving and kind.
Sean, 35, trauma nurse. After being a “player” Sean is now ready to find the woman of his dreams and settle down. The most important thing to him is family and he says his future partner must share this value. He is close with his parents; however, they were reluctant in supporting his decision to partake in this experiment. Despite the opinions of others, he is willing to risk it all in order to find true love through this unconventional way. (Side note, Sean knows Doug & Jamie!!!)
Jaclyn & Ryan R.
Jaclyn, 30, sales rep. She is outgoing and has a big personality. Jaclyn’s parents separated when she was 18 and divorced when she was 28, and she often had to play the role of “therapist” during their break-up. She needs someone who is able to keep up with her social lifestyle and who is just as outgoing as she is.
Ryan, 28, real estate agent. In the past, Ryan feels that he has put more into relationships than his partners had, so he is ready to find someone equally invested and ready to commit. He remains very close with his mother. Ryan’s sister passed away from breast cancer several years ago and since then, he has played a strong parental role in his young niece’s life. He feels that loyalty is the most important value to hold and wants to find someone who shares this belief
Jessica & Ryan D.
Jessica, 30, receptionist. She is finally at a place in her life where she feels she is ready to settle down and get married. Her parents have been together for close to 30 years, although they have only been married for the past 3. Having been exposed to long successful relationships all throughout her life, Jessica has several positive examples to model her own marriage after. She wants a man who is humble, open, understanding and loving. She is not interested in having traditional gender roles within her marriage and would like more balance when it comes to cooking and cleaning responsibilities.
Ryan, 29, business owner. Closing in on his 20’s, he feels he’s ready for the next chapter of his life. Growing up, he lived with his mother, sister and grandparents in Brooklyn, he speaks with his biological father on occasion but his step-father has proven to be a huge part of his life. He was incredibly close to his grandparents, who have both recently passed away, and looks to their relationship as an inspiration as they were in love until the very end. He wants a partner who is loyal, trustworthy, goal-oriented and fun. Ultimately, he wants a woman who is outgoing and who can get along with anyone.
Ten Days to Plan a Wedding
After we found our couples we got to see how quickly they start planning that wedding. The ladies went dress shopping and men were fitted for tuxedos. We get glimpses of their family life when we see the reactions about the experiment. How the friends respond during the Bachelor/Bachelorette parties (I really wanted to write Stag & Hen Nights but wasn’t sure if you’d get that).
Gifts to their spouse to be
What I loved were the cute gifts exchanged by the couples the day of the wedding. Jessica sends Ryan D a cute pair of socks that say “In case you get cold feet” and Ryan loves it. Ryan R writes a darling card to Jacklyn which is so heartfelt. Every one of her bridesmaids awwws with cuteness. Sean gives Davina a gift in a little blue box with a sentiment that had me crying, again.
The weddings start
We see the moments right before all three weddings but Jaclyn & Ryan R’s is the only one that started. And you know by know we’re all in love with Ryan R and when we hear Jaclyn say she’s not attracted to him, we’re all crushed and remembering Doug & Jamie. Luckily we know how that worked out.
