All British boys all the time. Welcome to Union Jack’d. This week, we talk Jamie Campbell Bower.
I first noticed Jamie Campbell Bower’s perfect little androgynous face in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as he waxes poetic about Johanna.
Then I spotted him in the 2008 RocknRolla. His character, Rocker, is in desperate need of some dry ice. I want to see more of this frazzle haired, punk rock, comedic Jamie. I think it suits him.
Then, unfortunately, he was cast as a very pale Caius in the Twilight series. He was out sparkled in every way by our dear sweet Edward Cullen but I still loved him.
This was followed up with roles in Harry Potter and British TV series The Prisoners and Camelot. Then came the movie The Mortal Instruments, based on the book series by Cassandra Clare which tends to be loved/hated in equal measure. Jamie was cast as Jace: blonde hottie with lots of emotional baggage, a flare for the dramatic, and a way with the ladies.
And there was a frenzy. It was Sam Heughan/JAMMF level but with tweens, who are much more cut throat. The truth is even I had doubts that Jamie could pull off my beloved Jace. Until I saw this…
Shut the f*k up, Jamie Campbell Bower. I can’t think when you’re singing like that with your dangly blonde locks and your closed eyes. I later found out his dad works for Gibson Guitars, he’s actually a good musician (this isn’t another Theo James false alarm), and he sings lead vocals for The Darling Buds.
Back on point… I thought he was great as TMI’s Jace and it has been announced he’ll reprise the role in the sequel, City of Ashes, due out next year. In the meantime he’s paying the bills modeling for Burberry and Jaguar.
