Here we are six months later with our Married at First Sight family and the host, Kevin Frazier, from Entertainment tonight is digging in deep with our couples. He isn’t afraid to get intimate, ask the hard questions and you can tell he loved every minute of this!
A lot of the things discussed during the show, we found out during our interview with Doug, the confessional section of the shows and in newspaper articles like this NY Post article. We did get a few new tidbits to discuss and you know a lot of it is going to come from Monet & Vaughn.
We did get to see our experts pleased and concerned for the well being of each participant. It’s been fun seeing them support our couples and in turn give all the viewers relationship therapy! Dr. Joseph Cilona, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Logan Levkoff and Greg Epstein, thank you for agreeing to do this! I am sure it’s hard when you hear things like “The Experts failed me” or “You weren’t there for us.”
Cortney & Jason
- They are indeed still together and have a new apartment.
- Cortney is not pregnant
- Jason is in and surviving Fire Academy.
- Cortney has taken a sabbatical from the burlesque group to have time to be with Jason.
- Jason met Cortney’s family and they love him. (Cortney’s dad will be present when he graduates from Fire Academy)
- Cortney met Jason’s mom the night before she passed away.
- Trust your gut!
The two of us against the world…
I loved that Cortney stepped in so Jason wouldn’t have to talk about how hard his mother’s passing was. Jason knew she was his person. In the beginning Jason had doubts but it was his own insecurities. Their story is a lesson about courage and they are as cheesy and sappy as I am. MFEO!
Monet & Vaughn
Monet and Vaughn talk about the demise of their relationship that we’ve all discussed through and through. They both have learned a lot about themselves through this process.
It’s interesting to see the experts reaction as Monet is taking. We always knew there was passion in the relationship but that it turned into makeup sex without making up. Her breaking point was when Vaughn said he was just trying to be civil. Until that point, she had been trying, she felt Vaughn wasn’t. That was the end of it for her. She felt that Vaughn baited her. She feels Vaughn is vindictive and manipulative and she says she doesn’t respect Vaughn.
Vaughn’s side of the story
When Kevin asked “What went wrong?” Vaughn said we were two strong people with strong personalities. But when assigning who’s fault it was? Vaughn said it was 60/40, Monet’s fault. He said he wanted someone who would embrace traditional gender roles. I think his version of traditional gender roles were crazy. He kept his apartment, and often left. He was happy to get away.
Both of them say they have no hard feelings and they wanted it to work. You can tell they don’t believe each other. I know it has got to be hard watching this and scrutinized but this is difficult to not place blame. These are two people who clearly don’t know how to communicate. Some people think Monet was difficult, others think Vaughn was a chauvinist. And then we talk more about sex.
Was this couple too intimate early? Was it a bad one-night stand with a stranger you’re married to? We get to see some dirty laundry aired when Monet shares that Vaughn wanted sex after her foot surgery. When she said she wasn’t in the mood, his reply was, “Well their is nothing wrong with your hand.” OMG OMG OMG! Vaughn seems shocked that she put it out there
Vaughn apparently struggled with the filming process and constant presence of the cameras. He felt that Monet was a different person on camera vs. off. I wonder, was Monet portrayed as the successful NYC business woman where Vaughn was portrayed as having little to no direction? Their bickering made me so uncomfortable! The experts even said: You have high compatibility and have the capacity to communicate but both reach for grenades very quickly.
It seems to end amicably but do they really mean they wish the best for each other or did the show say, make nice so we can end on a happy note? I’m left wondering…>!
Jamie and Doug
Jamie admitted she didn’t always have Doug’s best interest at heart expecially after watching the show back. She also had so many moments she thought what have the experts done?? She did indeed say they didn’t fail her and to trust the process.
What we know:
- Still together, Doug can’t imagine his life without Jamie
- Jamie loves his family
- They did indeed consummate the marriage
- Spooning works… it helps you build intimacy without sex
- Jamie wants babies!
I found it so important about Dr. Logan’s comment that helped someone with a troubled past. Doug was able to valued sex on the emotional level and allow open conversations about sex that so many people don’t talk about. How often in more conservative societies is this something we don’t talk about when it’s the elephant in the room that everyone should know, be open about and discuss. This square-state raised conservative girl has had far too many friends have no clue what they were doing on their wedding night because it is something that isn’t discussed.
All Three Couples
Here we see what the couples talk about all together.
Jamie loves the type of wife Cortney is and all she does for Jason.
Vaughn gives props to Doug for his patience, He would’ve walked. Jason too says way to go but would have acted the same. When asked if Monet had wanted to wait like Jamie, Vaughn said “The good guy would have had to come out.” Does that mean he admits he wasn’t a good guy?
We find out about wives night where they get together and dish on the husbands.
Monet’s favorite part? Watching Jamie grow to love Doug
The difficult thing and, yes, I felt Monet was talking to/about me! The pressure from the internet and people saying it’ll break my heart if you aren’t still together. Work it out. Monet said that’s a lot, what about me? my heart? I’m the married one dealing with this!
Doug, ever the jokester, had the best oneliner:
Bottom line, waited until we were married to have sex.
We discover that there was a dust up between Vaughn and Jamie on Twitter. I didn’t see it and I’m not going to go dig it up. But you can completely understand why Jamie would take Monet’s side in anything. Vaughn and Jamie’s personality would not do well in a relationship and aspects of Vaughn may remind Jamie of unpleasant pasts. For Jamie to say Monet endured a lot dealing with Vaughn, I don’t think was out of line. But when Vaughn says, if Jamie only knew how much I defended her. well okay two can play at this game. Not gonna lie, it just proved to me that Monet was indeed right, Vaughn hasn’t grown up and still wants to throw the tantrum in the sandbox. Dear Monet, you can have me in the divorce 🙂
We do have to keep in mind, every tweet, every post, every comment, there is a real person at the other end of those comments.
One Take-Away From the Experiment
Monet: Communication
Vaughn: Patience
Cortney & Jason: Trust your gut
Doug: Be honest about your feelings
Jamie: It’s okay to reach out for help, don’t be ashamed.
Kevin learned from each couple:
Cortney & Jason: Doesn’t matter how old you are wisdom is there.
Doug & Jamie: Have Faith.
Monet & Vaughn: Take something away from this and learn from it.
Everyone would absolutely recommend this experiment to their friends, family whomever as long as they are ready to get married. They have to be borderline brave and crazy but it’s worth it in the end.
