SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Episode 3 – The One Where Alcide Dies
Not gonna lie, I got a semi-spoiler on Twitter for this episode and was CERTAIN that Eric was going to die in it. If that was the case, I was actually ready to just make this post be my True Blood finale post. Luckily that did not occur! The spoiler was about someone else, and we ain’t talking Hoyt’s mom here, guys. But before we get to that, let’s break down the other aspects of this episode…
Sarah Newlin Is Baaaaaaack
When Jason let her go last season, we knew of course they were bringing her back. But holy crap did they do it well! Sarah is one of my favorite True Blood characters. She reminds me of my 7th grade cheerleading coach (I went to a private Southern Baptist hellhole, er, middle school). She’s such an adaptable person, a bit like Lily Bart in a hyperbolic way, and can sniff out power relationship potential like a beagle finds cocaine in MIA customs.
Anyway, I’m glad she’s back and that she’s the reason for Eric to keep going with his life. The full circle of the episode was so fantastic with the story of the Rhone and the TruBlood corporation. Ah, greedy corporations that act like the mafia… the true enemy!
TruBlood Corporation Out for Revenge
So, if the TruBlood corporation is out to kill Newlin for the abandonment of the Louisiana factory and the murder of Ms. Suzuki (presumably), that means they are still around. This is good news because it makes it possible that the big question I’ve been asking “Why don’t they make TruBlood for the sick and well vampires to drink to stop the HepV spread and give the world more time for a cure?”
I really hope that gets addressed soon. With the corporation’s re-introduction, I have hope. Even if Mr. Gold Tooth isn’t my favorite person to see on screen.
Riding the Wave of Love
Lafayette and James are the cutest. Clearly he’s into Lafayette, and it feels like the Jessica relationship will be ending sooner than later. All I can say is, great chemistry with them. And if their entire plotline plays out in Lafayette’s living room, I’d be fine with it. Of course, because someone spoiled me to say that someone died, when Lafayette wouldn’t wake up immediately I FREAKED OUT. You cannot kill Lafayette off this soon! Just no. He’s seriously the best.
RIP Alcide
Which brings us to who actually died in the episode. Remember when Sookie said to Bill, “I can’t let anyone else die because of me”? Well, you did, Sookie. Your stupidity got your boyfriend killed. WAY TO GO. Way to take away the best abs in the show. Way to just ruin that for all of us who were watching for hot naked men. Thanks a whole bunch, Sookie.
Here’s a nice collage for everyone… To Alcide Herveux! Whose gorgeous hair with a hint of grey will live on in my wee beating heart and libido forever. Your fine ass and abs will be sorely missed, sir!
And one more good measure before we move on!
Episodes 4 & 5 – The Sadz
So, I’m wrapping these into one because really not much happens other than two plot points and a whole lot of grieving. Oh, and some gay sex (finally James and Lafayette hook up!). But Sookie’s sadness was for real. I actually believed it this go round. And that scene where the dad overhears her conversation with Arlene and then at the very end he leaves her Alcide’s jacket on the bed. OMG I totally cried. (I’m an epic sap at movies and shows, okay! And Hallmark commercials and particularly sweet greeting cards)
Backstories!
So, the key thing that happened in Ep4 is that they got the people locked in the dungeon out, and killed all the problematic HepV vamps at the same time. Plus Eric didn’t die. Which is kind of all I care about at this point. Watching him on screen now is like watching Peter Dinklage all last season of GoT. It is just like, “Is he gonna die in this scene? He better not. Can I keep watching this show if he dies? I don’t think so.” Lots of inner turmoil, people!
The best part of Ep4 was the Ginger / Fangtasia backstory! Eric as an N*Sync band member was the absolute best. Man that backstory was good! She was just soooo Ginger. It made her tolerable again and then in Ep5 when they leave her it was a nice closing for her character. Forever in love with Eric Northman. And that scene in the plane with Eric and Pam when she explains how she glamoured Ginger and stole her idea for Fangtasia…
“You didn’t.” Eric smirks.
“Oh, I did.” Pam smiles.
“You bitch!” Eric says with a chuckle.
“But you still love me.” Pam offers more quietly.
“Always.” Eric replies.
I was so happy. Eric is the best when he’s himself. And Pam. More of them, please!
Natalie Hall FTW
Episode 5 with the whole party thing… weird. Sam’s baby mama had that crazy pegged right. I’ve already mentioned the part I loved the most (the jacket). But let’s keep it real, the best part of Episode 5 was when Natalie Hall opened that door in Dallas. #StarCrossed REPRESENT! She was my favorite actress in Star Crossed, so to see her with a recurring role in a show as big as True Blood is great! And her acting chops were excellent.
Between her and the guy who plays James (and is on The Originals), I’m now convinced that it is the CW that ruins acting ability with their crappy directing and shitty dialogue. Natalie Hall was so different in this role, even though her role wasn’t that different from Taylor. And talk about the casting! Holy crap do she and Sarah Newlin actress look like sisters! What a great job. I was thrilled. And this exchange…
“I like her.” Pam says.
“Is it okay if I haven’t made up my mind about you yet?” Amber says.
“I really like her.” Pam says.
Episode 6 – The Cure
Well, no one saw that coming!
My husband actually LOL’d when Sarah Newlin said “I’m the boddisattva!” But if she is that, then the drama of this season is…… kind of basically done. I mean, clearly if she’s the boddisattva she’ll be more than thrilled to hand over her blood to the Yakunomo Corporation for processing into the TruCure or whatever they will call it. We shall see… but it’s a fabulous twist no matter how this shakes down!
And some bigger questions remain… like is HepV just like HPV where you can cure some strands but not all? Do human carriers of HepV all have the same strand of the virus? What about the fae blood meets HepV version? Is Bill going to die?!!! More sadz!!!!! And what about curing humans? Can HepV carriers drink the cure and be rid of it too? I’m sure these two hope so:
Speaking of Bill… can we just smile triumphantly at his calm and collected response to extortion? Letter opener to the throat never looked so sexy! A bit like the Norse vs. Ninja scene with Eric and the Yakunomo peeps. That jaw ripping moment with Mr. Gold Tooth, I mean, come on, how could we not want that? He was soooo Tarantino movie in this episode. I was in love. When they are walking up to Amber Mills house and that music starts? I said to my husband, “This is soooo Pulp Fiction.” #epic
Also, alert to Jamie W., hot men can pull off bolo ties, so there is still hope for Tom Hiddleston playing Hank Williams!
And lest we forget the classic Pam line:
This episode had so much epic in it! I feel like this season is really solid. We are back in a season 3 mentality almost… especially with Ep4 killing off those pesky townspeople. What a relief! We even got a Jim Parrack cameo! I am excited for Sunday to see where this goes pacing-wise. We have one more full story to explore with the amount of episodes left, I’m wondering what it will be.
What about you? Did you enjoy these past four episodes as much as I did? What was your favorite moment? Did you die laughing at the Ted Cruz reference? Just me? Do you think Bill will be able to get the cure in time? Is Jason’s psycho ex-gf going to kill Adelaide to seek revenge on Jason through the blood connection with Jessica? Will any of us actually be that sad if Jessica’s head is ripped off?
