But let’s get into it because Star-Crossed Ep9 “Some Consequences Yet Hanging in the Stars” was a pretty action packed episode!
Okay, so first things first, Draylor is getting hot and heavy all over the place. It’s kind of funny how Roman and Emery are petrified of people learning about their relationship but Drake and Taylor are just like, “Interspecies sexy times? Yeah, it’s hot.”
I mean when he pulls away her hair so he can take off her top in one fail swoop? Unf. “That’s not an Atrian thing, no that’s a Drake thing.” Double unf. And just in case you were needing a little more Greg Finley shirtless action–which is not shameful, I rewatched this whole scene three times, guys–here you go:
I’ve said it before though, and I’ll say it again, let’s hope these two are using protection. We saw what happened in Prometheus…
But back in the land of innocence and really intense makeout sessions, there’s a little bit of trouble in paradise between Roman and Emery when he can’t accept that Atrians and Humans just aren’t actually that different when it comes to be two-faced selfish assholes (aka his uncle). Emery just wants to advise him to use caution, and Roman’s all “You know nothing, Emery Whitehill.”
Turns out Emery did know something and Castor is the big bad baddie that we have kind of been thinking he is. Worse than a trag! So if it wasn’t for Emery’s quick thinking and manipulation of Sophia, Roman would be in the Crate along with Drake and his mom and the show would basically not be worth watching anymore.
Luckily everyone came together to roll-out the rescue mission and Emery was able to learn that Teri wants her boyfriend and that trags don’t kill humans on sight. Will Emery be the key to unraveling the trags hatred of humans or will Teri be the bridge that links the trags to the integration POV that Roman holds? And wtf is the weapon that Soroya is supposed to build going to do? I think it’s a cloning device! And what is this hoodie cape thing and why does it even exist?
Also, what were the elders doing all going en masse to check out a scuffle in the sector? Don’t they have people to do that for them, first of all, and secondly, why would they ALL go at the same time? Sure Castor is the leader and all, but it just seems unrealistic, especially since they don’t seem to ever leave that pod at all. Plus, why wouldn’t Roman immediately go find them once he was set free?
That said, how Castor pulled off the de-legitimization of Roman was brilliant! I loved that part. It just upped the ante on the forces keeping Romery relationship from ever being successful. Plus it pulled in the reality of it all for Teri. I’m excited for her character to have more relevance. Let’s take a moment to enjoy Romery while we still can #awwww (seriously the chemistry with these two actors is absolutely astonishing)
But…let’s move on to my absolute favorite part of the show: How Taylor handled Sophia’s kiss.
We all knew Sophia would try something sometime soon and I wondered how they’d have Taylor react. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was perfect! I love how they have shaped Taylor into a genuinely good person and not fallen trap to “popular girl” stereotyping. She is really one of my favorite characters. When she just quietly explains that she’s been there, done that and it wasn’t for her PLUS she’s into someone else, it didn’t embarrass Sophia more than regular rejection would and it didn’t minimize Sophia’s feelings. I actually tweeted the writer to tell her how much I loved this part. (She tweeted me back!! She said: “That means a lot. Thank you.” Yay!!)
Then Drake shows up and Draylor officially surpasses Romery in best relationship in the show because this happens:
What’s so great about Draylor is that their relationship is free of the epic pulls that Roman and Emery suffer from. Neither has to live up to expectations beyond what they have set for themselves, and their drama is just legitimate emotions, insecurities, and communication issues. Every viewer can relate to them, which is something that Romery can never do.
Grake Please
Finally, can we please comment on Grayson’s storyline now SUCKING SO HARD that I just want him to mysteriously die off? Like, WTF writers? Everyone else is so forward-thinking among the kids. You even made Eric come around! Why is Grayson regressing so much? I get that someone has to wonder what happened to Zoe, but wouldn’t the school and authorities be looking into that?
Confession: When the scene where he confronts Drake at Taylor’s party happened, I was kind of rooting for a Grake moment reminiscent of Sophia-Taylor except a longer lasting kiss, ahem. You see it now, don’t you?
So what did you guys think of Episode 9? I realize Ep10 has already gone down and probably some comments are not relevant, but what do we think will happen with Castor and Vega? How will Gloria come into play in this Atrian civil battle? Are Romery done for already?
