Gold
Patrice Bergeron (CAN)
While sporting my favorite length of facial hair, Bergeron helped Canada’s top line take the gold medal game against Sweden to shut-out victory. The team didn’t trail the entire tournament and wins their ninth Olympic gold in Sochi. O Canada, indeed!
Tobias Arlt (GER)
Team Four (known by the rest of the world as the Bavaria Express) went all out in Luge, winning Gold in both Doubles and the Team Relay. You can see just how happy both Tobiases are with their victory.
Sven Kramer (NED)
While Sven didn’t make the Sochi posts, he was in the final cuts and got a shout out on the comment boards, so I think he counts! Despite a shocking upset in 10,000m by his teammate Jorrit Bergsma that gave Sven a silver, he still went on to claim 2 gold medals and set 2 new Olympic Records in Sochi.
Sage Kostenburg (USA)
Another nod to our comment board’s great taste! Sage went ahead and won it all for his sport’s Olympic debut (Slopestyle Snowboarding). True to the style of snowboarding, Sage brought the silver and bronze medalists onto the top podium with him to celebrate together. I love how friendly snowboarding is!
Silver
Johnny Oduya (SWE)
The team sports are always a little more awkward when it comes to medals, since winning Silver means you lost Gold, rather than you placed second best in the world. Because of this, I’m including pictures of the Swedish hockey team without their medals during their happier moments in the tournament, since, you know, they had to win basically all their games just to get to the final game.
Gabriel Landeskog (SWE)
Another glorious Swede silver medalist! Really, when are we booking our trip to Sweden (even though Landeskog lives in Denver, whatever)?
Christof Innerhofer (ITA)
While official Sochi post Italian Matteo Marsaglia didn’t medal, Christof Innerhofer of the OMFG Italians fame went on to get a silver and a bronze in Downhill Skiing and Super Combined Slalom. For ab reference, Christof is this one:
Bronze
Steve Langton (USA)
Sexy Steve delivered with 2 bronze medals in both 2-man and 4-man bobsledding. His partner Steven Holcomb pushed through an injury in order to lead their team to the podium twice, and the result was a very exciting finish on the track.
Robin Szolkowy (GER)
Robin and his partner get bronze again after the dominating Russian force take silver and gold for Figure Skating Pairs. The duo had won the latest World Championships, but the Russians brought it hard this Olympics for figure skating, snagging 5 medals and winning the team competition.
Well, that’s it for Sochi! Поздравления to all the athletes and Большое спасибо to you guys for following along with us. Not to fear though, there is more Hot Guys of Sports to come on That’s Normal as the World Cup in Brazil starts June 12th! Look forward to some Stanley Cup coverage this spring (of course!) and a little international tennis action as well as we head into the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open all starting in June.
Увидимся!!!
