SPOILERS. LIKE WHOA! So don’t read or scan this post if you don’t want spoilers.
Apparently the writers and producers are reading That’s Normal, because holy shit guys, did you just see last week’s Vampire Diaries? I mean, HELLO! I didn’t realize it was back last week, so I just discovered it on my DVR today, and omfg it was the best VampDi I’ve seen in AGES. It *only* could’ve been made better by a Katherine-Elijah reunion (Damon’s such a dick!) and since I watch The Originals, I know what that can’t be going down any time soon (though… I mean, maybe).
First, we get our epic reminiscent Katherine is dying episode, which is so classic VampDi at this point since basically 2 ensemble characters die each season. But because of this we get to revisit not just Katherine’s sob story (baby being taken from her did make me cry, I will totally admit that; that story has always been heartbreaking, even in Season 2 when she’s locked in the cellar prison thing and we’re first meeting Elijah), but also tons of dead characters! I love dead character cameos on VampDi! It’s so LOST. Like, “You’re dead? NOPE. We’re bringing you back for this episode!”
First we get more David Anders (SWOON) and then Alaric?! YES YES YES.
I didn’t guess the ending until Bonnie saw dead Katherine, and Katherine said, “No, I’m not ready yet.” That’s when I was like, “Oh, yeah, she’s gonna do the spell now and go into Elena’s body. Duh.” But, it’s totally for the best. It felt like the producers were saying to audience, “See, you thought earlier during the epic moment in the woods that we totally had heard you guys, but actually, we *really* heard you guys. Elena IS boring. We know. Here’s a break from her!”
Just like… THANK YOU, WRITERS/PRODUCERS! THANK YOU! Even if it’s only 1 episode worth.
But let’s talk about the part that made very little logical sense, but was the only thing anyone cared about during that whole episode…

Okay, but let’s just sit and relive it. Just like Caroline memorized Elena and Damon’s breakup, I’ve memorized Caroline’s confession to Klaus:
“Hello Caroline”
“Klaus,”
“Sorry, Matt’s buried alive. No time to chat.”
“And you’re really not even the least bit curious why I’m here?”
“I literally just whooshed at the sight of your face, so no.”
“Damon informed me that Katerina Petrova has taken a tragic turn.”
“So, you’re here to gloat over her corpse to be? To delight in the closure of 500 years of revenge? Great! Now I’m even less interested.”
“Well then perhaps you’ll be more interested in talking about Tyler?”
“Is he…Did you?”
“I sent him off with little more than a bruised ego. He really does hate me. Revenge, it eats at him. Poor lad. I hear you two broke up?”
“Because I made him choose between me and his stupid revenge fantasy. He chose wrong. I suggest that you learn from his mistakes and let Katherine die in peace. Dying sucks enough as it is, no need to rub anyone’s nose in it.”
“Would you give me the same choice?”
“What?”
“Were I to abandon my revenge against Katerina would you give me the same choice as Tyler?”
“I don’t know what you mean”
“Yes, you do.”
“You can’t just do this to me! You can’t just show up while my friend’s in danger!”
“You know while you’ve been vamping off in all the wrong directions, I’ve heard Matt’s distant and desperate screams.”
“Where?”
“Don’t worry, love, I’ve got it covered. Trust me, he’ll be quite happy with his rescuer.”
“So the quarterback’s been saved… what now?”
“Don’t you have a dying girl to go punish for all her sins?”
“I do, but I won’t… for you.”
“So you came all the way to Mystic Falls just to back off when I asked you to?”
“No, I came all the way to Mystic Falls to gloat over a corpse to be, as you so poetically put it. But I will leave minus the gloating in return for one small thing.”
“And what is that?”
“I want your confession.”
“My confession? I didn’t do anything. Confession about what?”
“Me. As soon as we’re done here, I’m gonna walk away and I’ll never come back. You’ll never again have to look me in the eye and cover our connection with hostility and revulsion. You’ll never have to loathe the darkest parts of yourself that care for me in spite of all I’ve done. I will be gone, and you will be free. I just want you to be honest with me.”
“I’m in college. I’m building a life for myself. I have plans and a future and things that I want. And none of those things involve you–none of them.”
“I understand.”
“No you don’t. Because, yes, I cover our connection with hostility. Because, yes, I hate myself for the truth…
…So, if you promise to walk away like you said, and never come back, then yes I will be honest with you. I will be honest with you about what I want.”
“I will walk away. And I will never come back. I promise.”
“Good.”

Okay. Whew. It’s just… I’ve been waiting 2 years for this. And it was actually worth it.
If we’re keeping it real, Caroline’s confession to Klaus actually happened in this moment:
Like right there, his expression is just like, “And this is why we are made for each other, Caroline, my eternal love!” And I just effing love them.
(long sigh)
Best VampDi in so long, and it didn’t even make sense why Klaus was there. To gloat over Katherine’s death? #whatever He’s got way bigger events happening in NOLA. Plus, Katherine is human and doppelganger…why is he not there for his last shot at doppelganger blood for his hybrids? I don’t get it. Also, why didn’t Rebecca and Matt have some hot and heavy hookup as well?! Sheesh!
And Tyler’s back? Uuuuugggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The best though, that look between Caroline and him. He’s all, “Oh, I left her.” and she’s all, “I totally just had the hottest sex ever with your revenge fantasy. AND I LOVED IT.” That was the best moment.
I wanted to give Caroline a shot and a hug. I think she’s my favorite character on the show. I absolutely hated her Season 1, so this is kind of a big deal for me to just say. But, seriously, she’s the best. Anyone who is courted that hard by Joseph Morgan lookalike? You say yes. And she did. And I bloody love the girl.
I’m officially re-energized for the show. I hope Professor McCreepy and his nephew are old news now and that the focus is on something else…which felt like it might be. We shall see. The doppelganger blood in a bucket bit was a little, uh, foreshadowy. Of what? We shall see. Clearly Objective 1 will be getting Elena back from Katherine’s traveling self. I’m excited though for the second half of this season. Bravo!
So, what about you? Did you expect the Klauroline moment, or were you sat there on your couch jaw dropped, madly tweeting, “Is this really happening?!” Do you think this was them “closing that out” or that we’ll see the characters together again? I just don’t think Klaus can leave her alone… or vice versa. They are epic meant for each other love.
