My Pick: Ben Foster
I’m already embarrassed to put this up here since I actually talk to this guy sometimes on the twitters, but I promised in the comments last week I’d post “my” Benedict today, and I don’t break my promises, readers! Most people automatically think of Cumberbatch when they hear “Benedict”, but I think of Matt Smith calling Ben Foster “Benjamin” during the 2013 Doctor Who Proms* (and smoked salmon eggs benedict brunch nom nom).

There are a lot of Ben Fosters in the world, including the beautiful former goalie for ManU, but really only one I care about. He’s an orchestrator, arranger, and composer who is probably at this point most known for arranging and orchestrating the Doctor Who scores (composed by Murray Gold). He’s done a ton of other stuff though and is constantly busy either recording or, you know, doing world tours with Peter Gabriel (no big deal).
Okay, yes, he’s skinnier than most of the MCM guys, but dude rocks the tux and suit, wore denim before it came back into fashion, and the v-neck paired with Ray Bans look? That’s his go-to in spring, summer, and fall, and no one is complaining. (as an aside, I just realized I’ve been following Ben on twitter since before denim was back in fashion. That is longer than my marriage! #facepalm)
So, cue up this song he composed and let’s do this!

Sure, he’s won Baftas too, but I was talking about his cute brother, Nick.
And if you’re not yet convinced he’s talented, adorable, and hilarious then his participation in the latest Doctor Who Fan Orchestra really should put you over the top. Also, there’s a theremin, which alone makes it worth watching. Ben comes in for the first time around 6:45, followed up by throwback footage of Delia Derbyshire, and then the theremin!
To finish off, I’ll include the Mexico photo. I wish I could explain this photo, but I really just can’t. Regardless, I do want to throw a “Thank you” out to the guy because if he didn’t do what he does, I wouldn’t have the inspiration I get from his work to write my own work. And then it would just be a sadder place. So, thank you, Ben Foster, for existing, for knowing what you wanted to do with your life, and for having the drive, luck, and talent to make it happen. Now get your ass back over to NYC already!
