The Vampire Diaries (I shorten it to VampDi) episode before Thanksgiving week was all good and fine until the very end when they introduced a historical plotline that has never once ever been mentioned or alluded to in any form over the past four seasons. To me that screams of Jumping the Shark.I’m beyond disappointed, guys. VampDi is my favorite show. I am constantly impressed with how they don’t run out of plotlines! Literally every season I have a moment where I say, “Now that enemy is dead/gone/moved/reformed and the plotline is closed, so what on earth can they possibly do next?” And they ALWAYS deliver! But not this time.

Sure the Augustine vampire 1950s horror story plot might be interesting as it’s carried out, but I can’t believe it without context. I need to believe that this was real and happened. I need Stefan to have mentioned this in passing. I need this to be real and simply buried as a horrible memory by Damon. But no. It’s just some crap the writers invented so they’d have a post-Silas plotline. It’s classic jumping the shark. I thought that maybe Damon + Elena would be jumping the shark, but it’s proven to hold out okay. It was so slowly built to that it was realistic and plausible. But this Augustine crap?
I am not amused.
There are so many other directions they could have gone. Why this? Why do we have to see Damon suffer with the eventual Elena saving him and all the while she and Stefan rebuild their broken relationship in Damon’s absence? Then Elena feels guilty [again] and Stefan and Damon brother bond [again] and she’s back to being in love with both of them at the same time. YAWN. This plot is 100% trite since they’ve done it already in … oh yeah, EVERY SINGLE SEASON.

Sorry, VampDi writers, but we don’t give any craps about Elena any longer. She was only interesting when she had her emotions turned off, and then she just got extremely annoying and you wanted Klaus to kill her already and do everyone a favor.

Matt being awesome and not a throw away character. What happened to this? Why did we stop seeing Matt as a sexy character? Bring that shit back. Maybe he can go down to New Orleans to hang with Rebecca again. They were a fun match!
Katherine and Nadia having mother-daughter bond-sessions. If Katherine could complete her emotional transformation that Elijah started her on and actually come to terms with the fact that she’s finally dying and gets to spend some real time with her daughter from 500 years ago, that would be really compelling material. Also a guest spot visit from Elijah to get her emo-self back on track would be *amazing* because he is HOT.

Caroline growing up. She’s getting so close to maturity, it’s really exciting. Let’s just see it through! After her BFF speech in the last show calling Elena out for starting to become like-minded to her murderer, heartless dick of a boyfriend (aka Damon Salvatore), I wanted to give the girl a major high five. She should really give Elena some space and find some other friends at college. Caroline has dealt with some MESSED UP stuff in her time as a vampire, and she really just needs to process and move forward with her life and self (or move south to NOLA, ahem).
Stefan leaving Mystic Falls forever to build a life somewhere else. I’d watch his spin-off series if he was shirtless the whole time. Pretty sure most people would. Maybe Caroline can go with him? They make a good friendship, I think. I was hoping something would happen after they went all friendsy when he’d lost his memory a few shows ago.
Jeremy and Bonnie getting it on hot and heavy with her new haircut, and then she gets pregnant. Who doesn’t want to see what happens when two previously dead people have a baby together? And Bonnie is one half in the living and one half in the dead… where would her baby fall? Can you give birth in the Other Side? How will 17 year old Jere deal with being a dad (I think he’d be a great dad, actually). Plus they would have the cutest baby ever! AND we could do a crossover of werewolf-hybrid baby from The Originals with the Half Living baby of VampDi. (notice I really just want crossovers… because I really just want Klauroline to happen)…
KLAUROLINE. I’m completely content with Caroline deciding she’s going to transfer to Tulane and try her luck there. Katherine will have moved to New Orleans to live with Elijah and bond with Nadia and Caroline will be in the dorms getting secret messages via sketch from Klaus until he’s finally accomplished his goals with that ridiculous French Quarter. Yes, I do think Klaus and Katherine could live in the same city and same house at this point. Then godmother Caroline would demand to see baby Bonnie-Jere and there’d be a super baby bonding with Klaus’ baby and Bonnie’s. I’m just saying, this would make a really great episode, and I don’t even like babies that much.
