TN’s Guide to Gifts that Don’t Suck: Topstyler Curlers

I love hairstyle blogs. The Small Things Blog is one of my favorites for sophisticated, adult styles. Princess Hairstyles has provided me lots of ideas for how to do my four-year-old’s hair. (What girly girl doesn’t like replicating Disney princess hairstyles?) But Cute girl hairstyles is by far my favorite–for me and the kid. And Mindy (the blogger) does tons of Disney/Hunger Games/Game of Thrones/anything else you can think of tutorials.

One of my favorite my-hair-is-a-mess-I-can’t-be-bothered-with-it braids is one from The Hunger Games that Mindy videoed and then re-videoed with the hairstylist from the movie as special guest. In the second video. Linda Flowers (the lead stylist from the Hunger Games), showed Mindy how she used the Topstyler to get the texture she was looking for in JLaw’s hair.

The c-shell clamps looked cool to me, so I asked my mom to get me the curlers for my birthday last year. And without a doubt, it’s one of the best presents I’ve ever gotten. I use it at least once a week, and I love how the waves come out looking loose and natural. (Note: I have thick hair that has a slight natural wave. I don’t know how well this would work if you have stick-straight, fine hair. But I’m sure those of you in that camp already know your hairstyle limitations.)
