TN at #SDCC: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Interviews

in Comic Cons on 07/29/19 by Julie Leave a Comment

I’m about to drop a fresh humble brag on you right now. I have stood less than two feet away from Sam Heughan, sat at the same table as Rufus Sewell, and made Henry Cavill laugh with my adorkable awkwardness. However, that all pales in comparison to the excitement I felt at this year’s SDCC. “Why?” you ask.

I finally got to interview the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and we have the videos to prove it. Pretty certain that for the next year, I will segue all conversations to the fact that I had a conversation with Andy Samberg.

Just a preview of what I wanted but didn’t do during our interview.

With the comedy moving into its seventh year, we discussed important moments from this past season, the impact of the #MeToo episode, and played a little game that simultaneously blew some of the cast members’ minds and proved how geeked out passionate I am about this show.

Just a gratuitous reminder that we went to the NBC party at the Brooklyn Nine-Nine experience and took this dope ass picture.

Andy Samberg (Jake Peralta) and Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago)

For B99 fans, talking to these two actors is the equivalent to winning the Halloween (now Cinco de Mayo) heist. For the past six seasons, we’ve watched Detective Jake Peralta and Captain Amy Santiago go from heated rivals to husband and wife.  Our conversation touched upon the emotional charge of “He Said, She Said,” an episode that dealt with the couple investigating a sexual assault case and Amy’s own personal experience of being a woman in a male dominated field.

Of course, we shifted our discussion into more light-hearted territory playing “Would You Rather.” While I love me some Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero steals this game with the ultimate Amy answer.

Sidenote: What you don’t see is the high five they gave to me for this game. I didn’t wash my hand for at least an hour and that speaks volumes.

Joel McKinnon Miller (Scully) and Dirk Blocker (Hitchcock)

As the 99th precinct’s most seasoned detectives, Scully and Hitchcock’s laziness and incompetency has been the source of comedy gold. Last season, we finally got to see how the non-dynamic duo went from being bad-ass detectives to being a constant liability issue for the department.

The Panel

Unfortunately, time ran out and we could not interview Terry Crews (Terry Jeffords) and Joe Lo Truglio (Charles Boyle). However, I did sneak this picture and have bragged to anyone who engages me in conversation – like family, friends, or that teenager bagging my groceries – that I was within a legally acceptable distance from Terry Crews.

If you missed the B99 panel, watch our interviews first and then watch the panel and all its tracksuited glory. You won’t regret it at all. Title of your sex tape.
