TN Celebrates Hug an Australian Day

in Holidays on 04/26/19 by Emily Leave a Comment

I am not sure why some website that no longer works decided to start Hug an Australian Day but we are here for it. I mean they may be an ocean away but we have some of our favorite things because of Australia. Steve Irwin brought us so much exploration about the world around us and conservation efforts. Before that, my mom watched The Man from Snowy River and I loved that movie. Kylie Minogue and Olivia Newton John absolutely influenced my musical tastes and now Australians are in all of the movies TV shows I love! I asked a few other TN contributors for help rounding out my list of Australians I’d like to Hug!

Her parents are from Poland but she was born in Sydney. Currently she is starring in The Handmaid’s Tale but she will always be Sarah Walker from Chuck to me.

Ben Mendelsohn

You may not know him from this photo but if you know his name, then you know who he is. Orson Krennic in Rogue One, Sorrento from Ready Player One or most recently Talos in Captain Marvel, Ben Mendelsohn morphs into so many villainous characters and does an amazing job!

Margot has only been gracing our screens for 10 years but she’s done so with amazing aplomb. From I, Tonya, and The Legend of Tarzan to Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, this is one Australian who has a lot ahead of her.

Jesse Spencer

Currently on Chicago Fire and previously on House, I had no idea Jesse Spencer was Australian until I heard him give an interview toward the end of House. It’s almost like few people knew Hugh Laurie was British. Jesse gets a hug!

Mostly known for her role as Mary, Queen of Scots on Reign, Adelaide is from Western Australia. She was also seen in Once Upon A Time and A Hallmark Movie.

Ryan Kwanten

As you know we love our vampires, and Ryan Kwanten spent his time in Bon Temps, Louisiana playing Jason Stackhouse. Ryan is from Sydney.

Nick Kyrgios

I had to be told about Nick by Amy. NIck plays tennis and apparently is a pretty all around nice guy. Proof? he pushed a woman’s car home after it had broken down in the country’s capitol Canberra where he’s from. Read more about that here.

Stepping into the role of Kate Kane for CW’s upcoming Batwoman, Ruby Rose is from Melbourne. You may have seen her in Orange is the New Black or Pitch Perfect 3 but her next movie is Red Notice with Sam Hughen.

Rebel Wilson

The time is NOW! To the great people of North America, get to the cinemas NOW to see ISN’T IT ROMANTIC ❤️whether it’s for Galentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day tomorrow or President’s Day weekend – get some love from us, treat yo’self and see our film in cinemas! ❤️

Funny woman Rebel Wilson is from Sydney and what haven’t we seen her in? She has so many films credits to her name including the Pitch Perfect movies. She has a new film coming out with Anne Hathaway, The Hustle. Watch for more on that soon!

Chris & Liam Hemsworth

What list would be complete without the Hemsworth brothers? Sure, they would get their own individual entries but I’m running out of space. Both born in Melbourne and amazing to look at, who wouldn’t want to give these men a hug! Chris will be in the upcoming Men in Black with Tessa Thompson and Liam was just in Isn’t it Romantic with fellow Aussie Rebel.

Who did I miss?

Now you may be thinking, you missed like the super OBVIOUS PEOPLE, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Taika Wititi (he’s from New Zealand), Portia de Rossi, Cate Blanchett, etc. I really could sit here and list one hundred more people — Anna Torv from Fringe, John Noble from Fringe and Lord of the Rings, Sullivan Stapleton from Blindspot, Teresa Palmer from Discovery of Witches, Emilie de Ravin from Roswell and Once Upon a Time — but I had to be selective about who I included.

Now, you tell me, who should I have included on my Hug an Australian list?
