Wondercon Artists
I’m really looking forward to finding artists Jen Bartel, Chrissie Zullo, Leanne Huynh, Nikki Abrego, and Lindsey Reimer. Each of these women have had artwork go viral recently. Whether it’s a Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel piece or Spider Gwen from Into the Spiderverse, I’m hoping to speak with each of them. I can’t wait to speak with them and find out more what inspires them and what it’s like being a woman in the nerdy world.

Cosplay
I’m not dressing up beyond a great nerdy t-shirt each day, but I’m excited for the fantastic cosplay so hold onto your boots! I’ll be sure to get some of the best photos I can find. Here’s two of my favorites from last year:
Panels
Last year I wandered Wondercon as one is wont to do and found myself in some of the best panels by accident. First an All Female Showrunners Panel that included Amy Berg (Counterpart), Sera Gamble (The Magicians), Gillian Horvath (Primevil: New World), and Kay Reindl & Erin Maher (Freakish). Each of these women provided fascinating insight on staffing and running shows in Hollywood today and how they dealt with character deaths or message boards and twitter and fan interactions. You can actually watch it on Youtube here:
Then I went to Inside the Writers Room: From Script to Screen where a Q&A format allowed attendees to pick the brains behind CW hits like The Flash, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals. Fringe and Black Sails, or The Librarians. What was great about this panel was when it was over, these Producers and Screenwriters of the shows I loved? They hung out, they stood around and I decided to take advantage of it.
Did I have a 10-minute conversation with Gabrielle Stanton who was a producer for Haven, The Vampire Diaries and The Flash? Sure did. And she shared a fantastic tidbit about how she tries to write a character like Lexi in every episode/show she does after her sister. Can you find her on Vampire Diaries? Follow her on Twitter here.
Was Marc Bernardin, comic book author and journalist just standing there? He was, and I said, “I think we were next to each other in line for the Incredibles 2 screening last week.” Kevin Smith had just had his heart attack so I wished him well and talked about how much I appreciated his viewpoints on the Fatman on Batman series. Follow Marc on Twitter here where you can find out about his new show and other cool things he’s working on.
At that moment Sera Gamble, Executive Producer of The Magicians walked up waiting for someone so I took that chance to tell her how much I loved what she’s been doing with The Magicians. Follow her on twitter here.
I could go on. This was by far the best convention experience I had ever had. From face-time with artists who were fans themselves to chatting with awesome people even a selfie with a Librarian, John Kim, who let me go on about how sad I was about The Librarians being canceled.
What I’m looking forward to
I’ve got a Dark Phoenix panel with Q&A that I’m excited for and seeing how Sophie Turner does as Jean Grey. Doing double duty from X-men, Nicholas Hoult is skipping over to do Tolkien a biopic about the author.
A spin on the Female Writers Room panel from last year is “Most Dangerous Woman at WonderCon,” “Entertainment is Female: A Conversation with Hollywood Executives,” and “Geekfest’s Women of Sci-Fi.” We’ll see how these panels go and what I’m able to glean from these panels. As well as another take of Inside the Writer’s Room. One interesting highlight that I’m intrigued by is a “Psychology of Harry Potter and the Crimes of Grindelwald.”
