But even if you didn’t have time to stop by the Facebook group, I hope you read January’s books because they were amazing. Nothing too plot heavy, complicated or literary, no. Just good old fashioned romance.
Spoiler alert: everyone loved them. What’s not to like about Christina Lauren and Mariana Zapata? They will forever be on our list of must-read authors.
Enough chit-chat, let’s talk about what we’re reading next.
Becoming
I mean, duh. You thought we weren’t going to read a book by Michelle Obama? Clearly, you haven’t read any of our Feministing posts. And we loved What Happened, so this is really a no brainer. Buy it. Buy it for your mom, your neighbor, and for your crotchety aunt because we really need that blue wave to keep rolling.
Sorry for our library-loving members, I have a feeling you’ll be on the waiting list for this one for a while. But, this is also a book you’ll probably want on your shelf. It has an almost five-star rating on Goodreads, it was the best selling hardcover book in 2018 despite coming out in November, and pretty much every news outlet has raved about it. Michelle is our queen.
The Wicked King
I promise I didn’t flood the vote, it happened naturally. But I ain’t mad about it. What an interesting discussion it will be with two wildly different books. I’m sure we can find a good segue between real politics and faery monarchy – they’re both terrifying, full of cruelty, and male-dominated. Fun!
If you didn’t read The Cruel Prince along with us last January, no worries! It’s a quick read and perfect if you like fantasy books, love/hate relationships, and confusing family dynamics. Plenty of time to get lost in Holly Black’s world before we meet in February!
And if it doesn’t sound like your jam, don’t read it. In Boozy Book Club you can read both, one, or none of the books – we’ll still love you either way.
For those of you joining the 2019 #TNReads Challenge, both of these books fit into multiple categories (memoir, non-dystopian YA, #ownvoices, recommended by a friend – me), so 2 down, 22 to go!
Ready to Start Reading?
All you have to do is join the Boozy Book Club on Facebook where we’ll be chatting about books all month long, attempt to read both (or just one) of the books for the month, and then join us on February 11th at 9/8c. Word on the street is we’re going back to our live Hangouts for Boozy Book Club, so you’ll get to hear and see some TN favorites chatting about these books. We know you’ve missed our faces and loud opinions,
