Time to break out those novelty Hogwarts robes, Harry Potter fans! Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters this week, and the fact that I saw Sorcerer’s Stone in the theater when I had just turned thirteen and I’ll be seeing this one having just turned thirty isn’t freaking me out at all. I know of fans about my age who are bringing their young children to this. But it’s fine.
I’ve written about the trailers, I’ve seen a few spoilers (which I won’t say anything about here) and now I’m all set to sit in that theater and start to cry the second I hear any bit of score that resembles Hedwig’s Theme. The Wizarding World is in full swing once again! Not that it ever isn’t for those of us that are diehard Harry Potter fans, but there will be so much new stuff to talk about after Crimes of Grindelwald. My friend and I will no doubt once again stand shivering in the parking lot afterwards talking it over, which sort of brings me to the matter at hand.
We’re starting a regular Harry Potter Hangout! We can’t let the Outlander fans have all the fun. The idea was originally conceived as a re-read book club, but with FB2 coming out, we decided that our first Hangout would be about the movie. A breakdown a la Infinity War. Here are the deets!
Who
TN writers Emily A., Laura, Lorena, TN video and podcast editor Zanib, and myself.
What
Our first Hangout will be about Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and then starting with Sorcerer’s Stone, we’re going to make our way through all the books. About five chapters at a time (maybe six where it makes sense), we’ll talk about what happens, larger themes in the Wizarding World, questions we still have, whatever we want! It’s not a book report, the point is to have a good time.
Where
We’ll share the link for the Hangout on all the TN social media accounts, and if you can’t watch it live, you can find afterwards on our Youtube channel or as an episode of the Totally Normal Podcast.
When
Every other Thursday!
Life is crazy, and as much as I think many of us would like to drop our responsibilities and read Harry Potter all day, unfortunately that’s not feasible. So every other week it is.
BUT! Since the Thursday after Crimes of Grindelwald is released is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, our first Hangout to kick things off will be on Wednesday, November 21st instead.
Why
Because Harry Potter is awesome and we love it.
How (you can join our fun)
Tune in and read along with us. Also send us your questions and comments as we go so we can add them into our discussion.
