Conspiracy?
Roberts plays Heidi Bergman, a counselor at a transitional facility for veterans returning from active duty. Her job description is clear, but when Heidi begins to question the intentions of her superior, Colin Belfast (Bobby Cannavale), her allegiance moves from her employer to her clients.
The story shifts between present day Heidi, missing chunks of memory from her time working at the Homecoming facility, and past Heidi doing her best to help soldiers acclimate to civilian life. With the arrival of Department of Defense investigator Thomas Carrasco (Shea Whigham), Heidi becomes increasingly distressed by her memory loss. The story intensifies as Heidi seeks answers as to why she left her job at the Homecoming facility.
More to Come
Based on the podcast of the same name, the first 5 episodes of Homecoming are especially binge worthy. With episodes running about 30 minutes each, the mystery sets up quickly. It’s a nice change from dramas that feel obligated to produce 60 minute episodes that just end up dragging. Though the pace slows as questions are answered, it all leads to a satisfying finish. However, not all is revealed in the finale. Be sure to view the stinger at the end of the last episode. It seems a minor character in season 1 may dominate season 2, already in the works.
Notable Performances
Homecoming also stars Stephen James (Selma) as a soldier at the Homecoming facility.
A strong supporting cast includes Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Dermot Mulroney (Shameless) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Broadchurch).
