Major Spoilers Ahead
Let’s Do the Time Warp
While we were caught up in Ross and Demelza’s letter exchange, something very strange was happening. Geoffrey Charles was growing up, and Verity wasn’t aging a day. We know this, because episode 3 was the episode of all but forgotten characters. Verity comes for a visit, ever the bridge-builder between the opposing families, but not much to mention about her own family. Geoffrey Charles, on the other hand, seems to be living it up bashing around London. Will the teenage version of Geoffrey Charles be the kind (although naive) little boy we once knew, or will he just be naive? Either way I see growing pains in his future.
It was fun catching up with these old friends in the midst of a new, more sinister introduction. As if Ossie Whitworth weren’t bad enough, we meet his mother. Morwenna’s Monster-in-Law is not to pleased to find her BABY grandson playing when a Whitworth should be dedicating his childhood to learning. I don’t care if Ossie is evil because he was raised by that horrible woman. He’s still evil, but I’m interested to see more about how he became what he is.
Beach Fight
Ross needed a good beach brawl to reconnect with his people, and his wife. Between the fight and almost losing Ross in the mine accident, perhaps things between Demelza and Ross are finally on the mend? Their bedroom is certainly seeing a lot of action… right in time for him to dash back to parliament. I get it! He really needs to be there fighting the good fight and hopefully protecting Cornwall from George’s evil grasp, but can’t he just take Demelza with him? Even for a little while?
Good Grief
I don’t know how anyone gets over the loss of a child, but I do know everyone handles grief differently. I only hope Dwight can see through his own grief just enough to find the pain Caroline has hidden under her stoic facade. I’m still not over the image of him sobbing over that tiny coffin, and I’m equally not over Caroline’s stone cold mask. She didn’t do herself any favors calling that sweet child a brat, or various other degrading comments, in the weeks leading to little Sarah’s early death. Good breeding does not mean you can’t cry when bad things happen! I’m so frustrated with her for taking off when her and Dwight need each other most. Will their marriage survive this great loss?
Team Poldark Vs. Team Warleggan Points
Last time we talked, Team Poldark had a comfortable lead at 5 while Team Warleggan was lagging behind at 2.5. How did things shake out after these last two episodes?
We did not get a shirtless Ross this time around, but we did get a proud papa Dr. Enys baring his chest on the beach. Step aside Demelza, I’m starting to think the Ross/Dwight bromance is the real love story of this series. +1
Ross is actually showering Demelza with some attention, and they’re getting better at this whole communication thing. Nice earrings girl! +1
Unfortunately, Caroline and Dwight only got 1 episode as happy parents before it was yanked away from them. -1
Any episode with a Demelza song is at least worth a point. +1
Ross kicking down that Warleggan fence gets a point. Perhaps not the best look for a politician, but I needed him to kick that fence down as much as he needed to do it. +1
The look on Ossie’s face when Dr. Enys told that if he wants his wife’s affection, he needs to earn it. +2 Because I said so.
Team Poldark Grand Total: 10
George and Ossie are plotting and hatching new schemes everywhere, and George is well on his way to buying his seat. +1
Team Warleggan Grand Total: 3.5
All things considered, Team Poldark is on shaky ground, but not down for the count. Can they uncover George’s schemes before he gets to the Poldark nest egg?
