Well, the time has come. I’m officially too busy to be involved in ANYTHING pop culture and entertainment-related. Well, except for the Sharp Objects finale which I plan to watch after I write this post.
Obviously, I broke down those Twilight DVD covers with Nikki last week when they came out. And obviously I’m totally excited for everyone to read Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren on 9/4. And I even saw Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. But that is IT. Besides those 4 things, I’m out of the loop. I don’t know what is going on in book-land. I don’t know what to watch on HBO after Sharp Objects ends. I am definitely not buying ANOTHER set of Twilight DVDs. And so… the day has come.
It’s time to help me with my decorating conundrum.
I need a storage Bench
When my boyfriend moved in last January, we had big plans on how to make my 900-square-foot-perfect-for-one-person-but-feels-small-with-two house more efficient and organized and fit ALL of our STUFF in our TWO closets. TWO. (I feel lucky, though, because I toured a house last week with ZERO closest).
We promptly unloaded his things into my office, making my Twilight and Outlander merch closet his closet, threw out half the stuff in my desk drawer for his files of important documents he’s forgotten about, and put some extra pillows, his down comforter and sheet sets on the floor for “That storage Bench we’ll buy to store things in in the bedroom.”
That was 8 months ago.
Guess where the down comforter, pillows and extra sheets are?
You got it- in the exact same spot we put them 8 months ago on the office floor!
So because I’m not telling you about the hottest thing in pop culture today, the best new book to read (let’s be honest, when is the last time I did THAT?) or what movie you gotta see NEXT, I’m asking YOU for help.
Help me pick a storage bench for my bedroom!
Here are our needs:
- It needs to be big enough to hold towels or sheets or a down comforter.
- It needs to be cute and trendy. My preferred design is Mid Century Modern. My boyfriend does NOT appreciate a throw back to the 60s, so we need to straddle my tastes and his. (We can lean towards mine because I’m making the rules here…. obviously)
- It would be awesome if my cats hated it and I didn’t have to put tape on the edges to prevent them from scratching. But let’s be honest- we’re buying them an overpriced cat bed.
- I’d really, really like to spend less than $300. I think $300 is too much for a storage bench, but I’m giving you a wide budget because I haven’t found anything I like for $25, which is my preferred budget.
Storage benches I hate
New England “comfort” is not my style. I like things that look great but are totally uncomfortable.
No, this is not for my garden
This is a popular style of storage bench, but the tufted look reminds me of something a king might have in his bedroom, if the king likes buying discounted furniture on Wayfair.com. Or Trump. Actually, it reminds me of Trump.
Storage Benches I like
This is the ideal. It’s simple and has that mid-century bottom half but a top I think my boyfriend would even like. The problem is it comes in orange, green and this beige. The only option I’d consider is this beige, which I like, but my rug, comforter and walls are beige. We cannot do more beige.
This one is a runner up, but it still looks a bit too beige to me.
I could possibly be into this wood bench, but I need some opinions on if this looks like it belongs in a lawyer’s office.
West Elm currently offers this beautiful bad boy, but I have a feeling it would fit a few towels in the large drawer and a kerchief or two in the smaller drawers. Plus it’s $499. You’re crazy, West Elm.
This is my favorite Bench. This is storage bench perfection. But, not to be outdone by West Elm, this Design Within Reach bench is $1,495.
Don’t be fooled by this listing, like I was. The $245 price is for the cushion only.
So what do you got TN readers? Want to help me find a bench and clean my office floor, once and for all?
