It’s Sebastian Stan’s birthday!
That’s right, it’s our favourite Romanian-American’s 36th birthday, so break out your favourite film with Sebastian related content (Captain America: The Winter Soldier or The Bronze get my vote here), grab a glass of your preferred beverage and indulge tonight to celebrate!
As That’s Normal’s Resident Stan Stan, it would would be strange for me to not mention or celebrate this day. This dude means a lot to me (despite not knowing him like … at all) – it’s in the way that he interacts with his fans, in how he’s open with his struggles with anxiety (which I have in spades), in how he just seems like a pretty cool dude, and in how he rocks the hell out of some serious eye acting.
Sebastian’s star has been on the rise since approximately March 2014 when Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out. And don’t try to tell me his fanbase was huge before then – I was there. There were so few of us, at least on Tumblr where I did most of my fandom flailing. We clung to one another like wreckage in a storm.
That being said there are so many wonderful people in this fandom now, and it’s honestly so much better!
Our birthday boy has had a busy year since his last birthday. I, Tonya was released (no, I still haven’t watched – yes, I am the worst) to immense praise and fanfare. The promotional tour for Avengers: Infinity War was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before (for Marvel or otherwise), and Sebastian was there for most of it!
He’s also been featured heavily in the con circuit (although he cancelled in Chicago, which a friend of mine bought a pass for and damn it, Sebastian! One day you will meet her!), and has been spending time at the Ronald McDonald House charity in New York City, where the kids there sang him happy birthday last week.
He returned to his native Romania for the first time in a number in a number of years to support a local charity for children there, and take part in a local film festival. Fans and the kids that he visited were absolutely bursting with excitement and joy, and Sebastian himself seemed to get quite emotional at being back in his homeland.
Also, I am continuously mad as heck that he seems to be aging backwards. Did you see pictures of him at Fandemic’s aptly dubbed impromptu SebCon last week? The man is a witch.
He’s signed on or been linked to a number of new projects (such as an adaptation of Beat the Reaper), and the Nicole Kidman lead Destroyer, which he is also starring in, is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. There’s rumours that it will be featured at another festival as well, and my fingers are crossed for the Atlantic Film Festival.
Although I have it on good authority that he is either in or enroute to Greece for a new project, I hope that he has a fantastic day with some celebration involved! Happy birthday, Sebastian! ♥
