Sleep is essential. There is no disputing that. We spend almost a third of our lives sleeping (some people spend even more). I try to get seven hours a night if I can, but there is so much to do during the day, that it can b hard to find enough time to sleep. By the time I do roll into bed, I flop down and fall asleep almost instantly, looking forward to another day when I wake.
But, a thought struck me. Am I not getting enough sleep because I am doing too much through the day or am I not getting enough done during the day because I am not getting enough sleep. To put it another way, would more sleep make me more productive?
Sleeping = productivity
The better your sleep at night, the better your productivity. The main thing which troubles me is distractions. If I am tired, I welcome distraction. Then, when I am distracted, it takes me a long time to get back to work. It turns out that the more tired you are, the longer it takes to refocus on your tasks once you are distracted. If you get some good sleep, then you are going to be more focused during the day.
I forget what my next point was. Oh yeah, a lack of sleep can cause memory loss. Or better sleep can improve your memory. I forget which way around it is. Anyway, if you can have a decent night’s sleep, then you can help solidify anything which has entered your brain throughout the day. If you do not get enough sleep, then that stuff is going to slip away like your lost dreams.
It is also said that you make fewer mistakes when you are more rested. Does that mean that I am tired all of the time then? More sleep means fewer mistakes, better decisions, and you are at less risk of burnout. So, how do you get this better sleep?
Eight Sleep
Eight sleep is a smart bed. I love it already. When I was scouring the internet for a better sleep (yeah, maybe I should have been sleeping instead of looking for mattress advice), I found their product page. This bed really is packed with features. So, what can it do?
If you have the perfect temperature in your bed, you sleep better. The Eight Sleep bed controls your temperature as you sleep. It can check the temperature of the bed and your room, and change it accordingly. Yes, it can even change the temperature of your room (as long as you connect to it). No more grabbing extra blankets to throw them off during the night.
It also monitors your activity during the day and night and then makes recommendations on how you can sleep better. It may notice that you do not sleep well after drinking caffeine at a certain time and recommend that you change your habits. Better to hear it from your bed than your friends. MattressMatchers review mattresses too, if you are interested.
The bed will also monitor your sleep and alert you to your best sleeping position. This can help you to fall asleep faster and sleep better by choosing that position initially. On the other end of your sleep, the bed will wake you gently so that you wake up happy and not groggy. The bed will know what time you need to wake and will do so gently in the morning so that you are woken in line with your natural sleep cycle.
Is it the answer?
I cannot say for sure, but this bed goes beyond a regular bed to integrate with your life and monitor not only your sleep patterns but also your patterns during the day. The best sleep is hard to get, but with this technology at your disposal. Nothing can guarantee that you will sleep like a baby, and there are always other factors which can affect it, but this bed will definitely help you to sleep better.
