Disneyland, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening dates (sorta) announced!

in Star Wars on 05/24/18 by Nikki Leave a Comment

If you’re like me you’ve been following the announcement, planning, and construction of Disney’s largest single-themed land expansion in history, religiously. In fact just last weekend I took this picture of Disneyland’s Star Wars themed land under construction.

We’ve come a long way since this:

What, you don’t frequently take pictures of a construction area??

.
So when Disney Parks dropped this video and news, I was ecstatic.

See those spaceships flying behind Galaxy’s Edge? That’s essentially traffic on the 5 freeway in Anaheim complete with smog. Kudos to the Imagineers for capturing what it’s really like to get to Disneyland, even in the future!

What’s In A Name?

Finally, after years of calling it “Star Wars land” we get a name and it is…

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Yes, yes. I approve… though I’m pretty sure since Disney Parks waited years to reveal this name everyone will still call it “Star Wars land” but nice try! The name gives them lots of options to bring in different characters from different movies and perhaps even the animated series.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening Dates

In true Disney Parks fashion, they launch this marketing campaign promising dates and give us “seasons.” Summer in Southern California could mean May or it could be September. So “Summer 2019” is vague as hell but hey, at least we’ve getting this new land before Walt Disney World. Sorry guys! Yes, it’s a bit of a rivalry between DL and WDW… and though we are smaller (but the original), we are mighty! And apparently SoCal construction companies are way faster than Floridian ones. And yes, maybe we have less actual land to build it on and thus making it a faster build BUTWHATEVER, we’ll still be piloting the Millennium Falcon before Florida will.

  • Disneyland – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open Summer 2019
  • Walt Disney World – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open late Fall 2019

So what do these dates mean? If you GOTTA be at the new Galaxy’s Edge opening, these seasonal opening estimates mean we’re zeroing in on actual opening dates and that means YOU can start looking at your calendar, perfecting your Chewie bellow, and start planning your vacay! For Annual Passholders, this also means you gotta start checking your emails religiously for updates in hopes of any sort of AP-only preview. I’m crossing my fingers and lighting my Carrie Fisher candles right now. Looks like this:

Start planning your vacays and stay glued to the Parks Blog as we wait for the REAL official Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening dates at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Oh and go see Solo this weekend to get some Millennium Falcon piloting tips before the big day.
