Deadpool and his band of merry outcasts are back in the film’s sequel, and with them are some new friends, NSFW one-liners, and – in my opinion – one of our greatest international treasures that needs to be protected at all costs: Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool promotional blitz.
I loved Deadpool, but to be perfectly honest, I loved the whole lead up to the first film a little more. Whether it was reminding men that when they’re at hairy palms status to just simply check the balls, or holding the internet’s most beautifully awkward interview, Deadpool’s PR machine brilliantly conveys the tone and humor without spoiling the film. Whereas other large franchises depend on multiple teasers, trailers, and featurettes that essentially show the entire film – I’m looking at you DC Universe – 21st Century Fox understands what drives people to see Deadpool and they unabashedly milk it: Ryan Reynolds.
Over a year ago, I wrote about Deadpool 2’s teaser trailer, “No Good Deed,” which is still brilliant. Then, they released “Wet on Wet,” an actual teaser set to a Bob Ross painting lesson filled with happy little trees and sexual innuendo.
Since then, the Deadpool 2 promotional juggernaut has been in full effect and I am here for it.
Don’t Call It a Comeback…
So what exactly is Deadpool 2 about? Here’s what we know about the sequel: Josh Brolin plays Cable, there are more mutants joining the fight to save some random mutant kid, and Wade Wilson continues to break the fourth wall. However, this is is a film that encourages the use of poop emoji for its title, so an official synopsis that actually reveals the plot would be unfathomable:
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Well, from the looks of the final trailer, that pack of sexually aggressive canines definitely have their work and possible humping cut out for them:
Deadpool, Domino, Bedlam and…Peter?
Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead return, but in the words of Wade Wilson, “We’re gonna form a super duper fucking group.” There’s a few new faces rounding out this “super duper fucking group,” including Terry Crews’ Bedlam, but who is the newest member of this merry band of mutant superheroes that I’m most excited about?
This guy.
Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney joins this crew as Peter, whose only super power is that he can rock a dad bod. We don’t know much about the enigma that is Peter, but we do know that he has his own Twitter account where he showcases his beekeeping skills, talks about his wife Susan and her fitness trainer Gus, has a legitimate fear of swans, and blesses all of us with gems like this:
Spent the afternoon practicing our X-Forcing. These guys are really good. REALLY good. Need to work on my cardio. pic.twitter.com/Huj4nfwOUD

Can we please start a kickstarter campaign to get Peter his own franchise?
Just Give Deadpool 2 the Academy Award for Best Song Now
Beauty and the Beast. That movie I can’t remember the name of with Robert Redford where he’s a reporter and hooks up with a much younger Michelle Pfeiffer. Titanic.
Celine Dion is the queen of 90s film soundtracks. So, it’s only fitting that she comes back to her music compilation roots with “Ashes” for the Deadpool 2 soundtrack.
You’re probably asking yourself, Wait. Celine Dion and Deadpool? Why? To that, I ask, Why not?
To be honest, the song is a total Celine song – one that you’re going to blare on your Sonos wireless speaker and attempt to sing in the shower, car, or cleaning your house. Coupled with Deadpool complete with high heels and choreography that makes you believe in the power of dance, this music video may make you scratch your head but the only lingering question should be,
“Why didn’t we pair these two Canadian treasures sooner?”
Get ready for Deadpool, Peter, and Celine when Deadpool 2 opens May 18th!
