Magnum PI
Jay Hernandez stars as a former Navy SEAL (can we talk for a second about how many Navy SEALs there are? This seems disproportionate) who uses his training to become a private investigator. Higgins is a she played by Perdita Weeks. Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill also star.
Murphy Brown
24-Hour Cable News? Fake News? Candice Bergen (who I once ate next to at Serendipity III in New York) is back with her original team tackling the 2018 media frenzy and completely different political climate. This may just work out.
God Friended Me
What happens when an atheist gets a friend request from God on social media? Brandon Micheal Hall stars as Miles Finer who is the son of a Reverend and grew up in the church and doesn’t believe in God. Once Miles accepts the friend request he suddenly gets suggestions for other people whose lives he’s supposed to affect. Joe Morton from Scandal and Eureka plays Reverend Finer. Violett Beane also stars.
I cried watching this trailer and it looks like something that ABC’s “Kevin Saves the World” could have been but with a better story. Watch this people, I promise this is going to be good. Greg Berlanti, of all the DC stuff, produces and this makes his 14th show in production, making him uber-producer.
FBI
Missy Peregrym and Jeremy Sisto work in the New York office of the FBI working on the terrorism cases, organized crime and everything else to keep New York safe. It’s from Dick Wolf but not in in the Law & Order world or the Chicago PD/Fire world so it’s interesting to see what they could do.
The Neighborhood
Cedric the Entertainer lives in LA and gets a new neighbor, when Dave Johnson, a transplant from Michigan. Not everyone in LA can appreciate the “Mid-west ways” and the extreme neighborliness. This could be funny but I can’t tell from the trailer. The Dave Johnson character was recast to Max Greenfield from New Girl. Will they reshoot the pilot? I’m not sure how it will affect the show if Greenfield will play off of Cedric the Entertainer better than who ever is in this trailer.
Happy Together
Damon Wayans Jr. and Amber Stevens West have their ordinary life turned upside down when a pop star played by Felix Mallard moves in with them to lay low after a high-profile break up. Peter (Wayans) is Cooper’s (Mallard) accountant and must dodge the paparazzi. Will Cooper bring Peter and Claire out of their rut? Will Peter calm Cooper down? This is an Odd Couple pairing, I’m on the fence.
Mid Season Replacements
The Red Line – Ava DuVernay and Berlanti will bring Noah Wyle in Mid-Season in a racial drama about three different Chicago families whose stories intersect after a mistaken shooting of an African American doctor by a white police officer.
Fam – Nina Dobrev lands back on TV playing Clem in a half-hour comedy called Fam. Clem’s 16-year-old half-sister unexpectedly comes to live with her and her fiance, played by Tone Bell, escaping their train wreck of a father. Only hitch? She told her fiance her father was dead. Broadway superstars Sheryl Lee Ralph and Brain Stokes Mitchell play her soon to be inlaws. IMDB lists as TV movie but other reports say it’ll be turned into a 13-episode comedy.
