But instead of just telling you about her, I thought I’d introduce you to her interview-style so you can find out why I think she is someone who fits in perfectly here at That’s Normal!
Meet Jordan Ellis of Jordandené and The Sartorial Geek
1. WHO ARE YOU? Why are you so cute? Tell us about those T-shirts you make!
I’m Jordan Ellis of Jordandené, a geeky home goods and apparel brand. I’m lucky enough to be married to a really sweet designer, who does all of our branding and hand-lettering projects. I wanted there to be more comfortable, stylish, well-designed, feminine geekery in the world, so I decided to start making it!
2. So….. what do you do? IRL. For Fun. Do you have cats?
I watch all the TV shows. While I’m working, after work, with friends, without friends… I’m a TV addict. I’m very lucky that there are so, so many wonderful shows available now to stream on all the various platforms (and that I can pretend I’m doing research for work). I love throwing themed parties and making all of my friends dress up with me. I’m also possibly addicted to escape rooms. I don’t have any pets, but I have a ton of plants that I try very hard to keep alive in my tiny New York apartment.
3. This new magazine: tell us everything. What is it? What are your goals?
The Sartorial Geek is an extension of Jordandené that I’ve wanted for a while but hadn’t quite figured out until now. I’ve been able to meet so many cool people through this job, but I couldn’t find a good way to work with or talk to or shout out all of their amazingness with my t-shirt company. We started the Sartorial Geek Instagram account a few years ago as a place to feature other cool geeky people and brands, and everything clicked into place at the beginning of this year with the idea of a magazine. We finally found a way to work with all the writers, photographers, and other nerdy people we love, while at the same time promoting positive, girl power-y, geeky messages. A podcast to go along with it made so much sense that we started one the week after issue one of our magazine came out.
We’re hoping The Sartorial Geek can be the empowering, diverse, welcoming geeky community we’ve been looking for. We want people to connect over their passions, find out about like-minded people doing really cool things in the world, and have a place they know they’ll be taken care of. We also love being able to pay people to work on things that mean a lot to them, so that’s something we really hope we can keep affording to do!
4. What is coming out in upcoming issues?
If all goes as planned, we’re hoping issue two’s theme will be “Love is Love,” coming out during pride month. Issue three, set to come out in September, will be based on sci-fi and women in STEM. I think issue four in December will be based on the entertainment industry, but I’m not totally sure about that one.
5. How can we get our hands on it and find you online?
Everyone on our membership list gets a free digital copy of the magazine (Join Here). For a physical copy, you can subscribe while supplies last.
Our podcast is mostly on iTunes, but we’re figuring out how to upload it everywhere. We also have a daily blog at jordandene.com, and we’re all over the internet @jordandenenyc and @sartorialgeek!
Thanks, Jordan! You guys have to check out this magazine (and the stickers!) So… we’re giving away FIVE COPIES to FIVE Lucky winners!
