We love all things Harry Potter around here, except for Cursed Child which means that our Tuesday afternoon came to a halt when the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was released. It’s not coming out until November, and this trailer has so much good stuff that it makes me wish that wasn’t so far away. I teared up watching it. Again. Just like I did when I watched the trailer for the first one. I’m not embarrassed in the least, even though I probably should be at least a little bit. These trailers are exciting in a different way than the trailers for the Harry Potter films were, because we don’t already know what’s going to happen. Instead of recognizing moments, every shot raises questions. Watch it, read about my top moments, and then tell us you own.
Dumbledore has me wanting to go back to school
First, I’m highly dubious of those Aurors apparating on Hogwarts grounds at the very beginning of the trailer. That’s not allowed, we all know it, so what exactly are they trying to pull?! The only person we’ve ever see do that is…Dumbledore! Who is so delightful in this. Jude Law is perfect and the way he talks about what is was like teaching Newt is so quintessentially Dumbledore for me. Seeing him at Hogwarts gave me all those nostalgic warm and fuzzy feelings.
Theseus Scamander and Leta Lestrange
We know that Leta and Theseus are engaged and that Newt was left at least somewhat heartbroken by their coupling. Leta has that “I’m better than you and I know it” look down, do doubt making her family proud. I’m loving the brotherly synchronization that Newt and Theseus have as they cast that fire spell. They look like a boy band!
Credence and Tina serving LOOKS
Credence is clearly displeased with the way his story played out in the last movie, and Tina is practicing her come-hither face lest Newt has forgotten her since they parted ways.
Jacob!
Jacob Kowalski, everyone’s favorite Muggle baker, is back and I couldn’t be happier to see him. He stole every scene he was in the first movie, and even though he lost all memories of magic, J.K. Rowling knew that we all love him too much to let that stand.
The beasts
It’s the name of the series after all, and so far we haven’t seen a whole lot of the so-called fantastic beasts. Pickett is back! I love that of Jacob because we get a good look at several different creatures, that Thestral-drawn carriage gave me chills. I think the creature the Newt is riding underwater is a Kelpie, and that’s one hell of a way to get wherever he’s going.
