Saying a Final Farewell to New Girl

If you’re a New Girl fan, you’re familiar with all these references and even more. These past seven years, we have been welcomed into apartment 4D and the lives of Jess, Nick, Winston, Schmidt, Cece, and never to be forgotten, Ferguson the cat.

Last year, I lamented over the possible cancellation of the show that is constantly in my “Keep Watching” queue on Netflix. I lit my prayer candles, said my Hail Jess’s, and sprinkled my room with holy glitter. It worked:

It's time to put on your cowboy hats and get down, #NewGirl fans. The loft-mates are coming BACK for Season 7! 🙌 pic.twitter.com/l3AiA5PLc5

New Girl returns for a final True American on April 10th.

*If you have no idea what True American is, you’ve never seen New Girl and we can’t be friends.

Although there will be only eight episodes this final season, we still get to say a proper bittersweet goodbye to Jess and crew. So what will happen for the seventh season? Here’s what we know so far:

We Get to Meet the Real Future Nick

Actually, we also get to meet Future Jess, Future Cece, Future Schmidt, and Future Winston: the final season jumps ahead four years.

The Schmidts

The last we saw Schmidt and Cece was amid a house filled with flowers, kisses, and tears when the couple learned that they made a caramel miracle*.

*A Schmidt-ism

This new season will introduce us to their daughter, Ruth:

Cece is all about leaning in with her successful modeling firm. As for Schmidt, long gone are the days of Dice and AssStrat. He’s now a stay-at-home father who makes tiger moms look neglectful and incompetent.

Winnie the Bish

Season six saw Winston Bishop get a divorce (We hope), get a fiancee, and get the cojones to call his estranged father.

Winston is still with Ally, there may or may not be a Ferguson, and we finally get to meet Winston’s deadbeat dad played by comedian J.B. Smoove. If the series ends with Winston finally putting a puzzle together, my life will be complete.

Jess & Nick

The couple who gave us this jaw-dropping, spark-inducing, rewind and rewatch it until you’ve memorized every little detail kiss…

…are still going strong this final season.

There hasn’t been too much spilled over Jess and Nick in the future. We do know that Nick is a successful author and that he and Jess are still together but not married. However, fans went adorkable over this Instagram post of Zooey Deschanel in what appears to be a wedding dress complete with flower crown:

However, knowing Zooey Deschanel – and by “knowing,” I mean cyberstalking her – this is what she typically wears on any day that starts with “T.”

The Return Of…

Although the fab five made New Girl one of the best shows to watch, they got a little help from an array of guest stars and one former series regular who made track suits dope for everyday wear. With only eight episodes left, here is who’s stopping by to say goodbye to apartment 4D:

  • Damon Wayans, Jr. as Coach
  • Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis as Jess’s parents
  • David Walton as Sam
  • Dermot Mulroney as the only man both Jess and Nick saw themselves growing old with: Russell
  • Last but definitely not least, Outside Dave and, fingers crossed, his pet rock, Leviticus:

Are you ready for New Girl’s final season? On a scale of 1 to Julie, how hard will you be crying when it ends?
