Top 2018 Oscar Hot Takes by Amy
- Willem Dafoe was robbed.
- I wanted Allison Janney to celebrate with The Jackal after her win.
- The movie about fish f*cking won Best Picture.
- The movie about Munchhausen-by-proxy as a kink won a jet ski and trip to a redneck lake in Arizona.
- The worst movie of the year did NOT win, praise be.
- The best ad was from Twitter, which spoke of empowering women under the idea of #HereWeAre. “She built a bridge…not a border.” Too bad actual Twitter is total garbage in terms of protecting women from online harassment. #irony
- Kobe Bryant won an Oscar. Maybe time isn’t up quite yet?
- Tiffany Haddish wore her white Alexander McQueen for like the 10th time and paired it with bedroom slippers on stage. She is my QUEEN.
Movies schmoives. Let’s talk about the real reason we watch, besides Armie Hammer shooting hot dogs at your face. We watch for the clothes! Here are my most notable dresses from the 2018 Oscars.
Margot Robbie in Chanel
Margot was on trend in white. The most interesting part of her dress is the garland detail, stolen from my parents’ Christmas tree from 1978. Her “wrecking ball” purse is cute. Wish she has swung it at Seacrest.
Viola Davis in Michael Kors Collection

Viola looked so happy and fresh in this hot pink column. The sequins were subtle and didn’t distract from her bright smile.
Emily Blunt in Schiaparelli

I judge a lot of dressed by “Would I wear that?” This dress is a resounding YES. Sunday morning, I was piddling time looking at all the collections on vogue.com, wondering what I would be wearing that night and the entire Shiaparelli was calling to me, like a fashun siren. Blunt’s dress is ethereal and flowy, and the sheer back adds a bit of sex appeal.
Betty Gabriel in Tony Ward Couture
Betty was channeling The Shape of Water minus the fish f*cking. The color and the plunging neckline were a delight in a night of pale dresses..
Maya Rudolph in Valentino

This cafatan-cum-Royal-Guard-Uniform is one of the best of the night. It’s chic meets brutalism, and it passes an important test: look at how much you can eat and drink in that thing.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé

James Holt was screaming invective at his TV when he saw this one come down the Red Carpet.
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein by Appointment

Overheard: “Make me look like Gwyneth Paltrow, minus the jade eggs and vagina steaming vibe.”
Laura Dern in Calvin Klein by Appointment

If I ever get married again, this will be me. Sleek white column and glasses. (Relax, dear boyfriend. I said IF!)
Mary J Blige in Atelier Versace

Mary J was channeling my fave Real Housewife, Erika Jayne. “Some might call me cold, but that’s not ice. It’s diamonds.”
Eiza Gonzalez in Ralph Lauren Collection

We’ve seen this dress before (think Jennifer Lawrence in that red Calvin Klein from a few years back), but the yellow makes it something new and delightful.
Phoebe Waller Bridge in Vionnet
How do you make a pale beige dress interesting? Polka dots! There is something vulnerable about this dress that I love.
Angela Bassett in Teresa Helbig

One of my fave looks of the night, this suit is “tuxedo made from Chinese handcuffs.” Chic with whimsy is always good look.
