This show is part contest part hot mess
I consider myself a fairly decent baker and have learned tips and tricks from some of the best, most photographed bakers in the country. I can cover a cake with fondant. I’ve made cake pops and cupcakes. I even made my coworkers do a cake decorating team building exercise a few years ago from a great company called Simple Gourmet.
That said, I would not qualify for this show. I think I bake too well. I know the difference between fondant, buttercream and royal icing and how to let the cake cool before frosting them. These home bakers don’t have basic knowledge about cake pans, how to fill them, and how long to leave them in the oven.
Okay, I’m judgy. But the judges, they are positive, they are very Paula and not at all Simon. They turn the fails into teaching moments and make sure the bakers understand where their mistakes sent them off the rails. Like this one who forgot to add flour to her cake mix and had her sugar, eggs and oil in the oven for at least 8 minutes before she realized it.
Our Host Nicole Byer takes us through two rounds of competition where three bakers try to impress chocolatier Jaques Torres and a guest judge and fight for the $10,000 prize!

Round 1 is Baker’s Choice
I won’t spoil the fantastic fails but here are some of the best judges’ reaction screen shots.
Round 2 is Nail it or Fail it
Here are just two of the professional cakes our intrepid bakers must attempt to recreate for Round 2. And if you have seen any of the promotional materials for this show, this princess cake is the one that has our judges in fits of laughter above!
Are the contestants unable to handle the pressure? Are they unable to follow directions? I’m such a perfectionist I was having anxiety watching it but I still laughed.
Wanna be a contestant?
It’s not yet confirmed if this show will be back for another season, but if it is and you’d like to be on it:

Amazing Mom Nailed it
Leanne’s neighbor made these amazing cakes for her kids. She too would not make it on this show. They would not consider her a fail.
