Summer Vibes
Everyone is swept up in the exciting frenzy of the Winter Olympics right now, but after they’re over many people are going to be looking past cold weather to the soon-to-come warmer season. It’s impossible to watch this movie without wanting to book a vacation to Italy to bask in the summer sun of its countryside, even for a snow bunny like me. The home of the Perlman family is gorgeous (and if you have a few million lying around you can actually buy it), and the town around it equally so. Fans should start doing tours of the area in the same way Lord of the Rings fans traipse about New Zealand.
Those sweet dance moves
Armie Hammer’s dancing in this movie was famous months before the movie itself even came out. He got so embarrassed by all the attention from it that he took a break from his social media accounts. It had to be horrible to shoot, but anyone who has seen the movie is greatly appreciative. Timothée Chalamet is no slouch either, and has the most adorable, wiggly dance style that puts a smile on your face each time it happens.
80’s fashion
As you can see above, Mr. Perlman is crushing it in the white summer linen, but that’s far from the only fashion moment. While the 80s aren’t an era that I’m particularly find of myself I know that many people have a nostalgic fondness for them. I suppose I can see why, there’s so much going on with the shorts in just this photo.
Armie Hammer’s shorts were so short that his balls had to be digitally removed in post-production. That is an actual piece of trivia about an Oscar nominated film.
Mr. Perlman’s speech
Almost word-for-word from the book, this father comforting his heartbroken son is the best scene in the movie, and Michael Stuhlbarg does it so beautifully. This is the kind of monologue I’d imagine every actor dreams of getting to perform. If you’re not crying at this point, you’ll most definitely start to cry here. If only everyone could have a father like this.
“The peach scene”
I’m not normally a person who puts a ton of weight on those movie moments that everyone needs to see. It puts too much weight on them and almost inevitably ends in a let-down. I will say though that in this case…you don’t want to be the only person who doesn’t know what everyone is talking about when “the peach scene” comes up. One of the most iconic scenes from the book, it was the subject of most of the questions during the press junket for the film. During shooting, perhaps wondering if physical intimacy with a piece of fruit is even possible, director Luca Guadagnino reportedly tried it out for himself and discovered that it is indeed. That’s true dedication.
You can still catch Call Me By Your Name in theaters, and pre-order the DVD and Blu-ray. If you want to read the novel, and you absolutely should, you can get that here.
