Most consumers realize there’s no magic bullet to weight loss and corporations have shifted marketing in response. The promotion of “lifestyle programs” rather than weight loss programs has been on the rise. Companies now promote general health, energy, and mental clarity while offering products for nutrition, self care, and weight loss. Some of you may remember my past adventure in body sculpting, which can read about here. More recently I tried two lifestyle programs that my friends have had some success with. I am ready to share the good, the bad and the downright scary!
PLEXUS
Plexus is best known for “the pink drink” and the TriPlex combo pack and claims products are designed to support “immunity, digestion and complete health.” I did not try the signature TriPlex program as it contained an ingredient I cannot take. I did try three individual recommended products that friends and a Plexus Ambassador acquaintance of mine have used.
The Good
The Plexus Slim, or “pink drink” was the best Plexus product I used. It tasted light and fruity and dissolved easily in warm or cold water. Slim’s prebiotics are said to promote a healthy gut, glucose metabolism, and weight loss. I felt more energetic and noticed improved digestion as well. (You can make your own assumptions about what that means. I am trying to be ladylike).
There were fewer days I longed to take naps, however, I did not loose weight after 2 months of use. I would consider using this product again, but at $87.95 plus shipping for a 30 day supply, I am not quite ready to dive back in.
The Bad
Along with my Slim, I tried the Plexus Block. These capsules are for blocking the absorbtion of sugars and carbs in meals and can be taken up to twice a day. In my personal experience, over a 30 day period, it did nothing. I didn’t feel different, I didn’t look different.
The Scary
I tried the Plexus Boost capsules which are meant to suppress hunger. They contain Caralluma Fimbriata, an edible cactus that tribal people use to quell hunger when out on long hunts. The recommended dosage is 1-2 capsules in the morning. I had started with 1 and after a few weeks of not really seeing any difference I decided to up my dose to 2 pills. That was a choice I would soon regret. After 30 minutes my heart started to race and my head pounded with every racing heart beat. I started to sweat and felt sick to my stomach. My first reaction was, “Why am I having a panic attack?”
I sipped cool water, I laid down and took deep breaths. As the symptoms continued for over two hours, I consoled myself with reminders that I was relatively young, my heart was strong and I could take it. I also laid there thinking “what a dumb way to die” and “who’s gonna cook dinner?” I finally recovered, threw out the remainder of the pills and we ate frozen pizza for dinner.
CONCLUSION
Does Plexus work? I do think the Plexus Slim improves energy and gut health which may contribute to improved overall health. As for the rest of their products, I am not convinced. The company does offer a 60 day money back guarantee if you feel inclined to try it out.
